The Australian Philips 75PQT9020/79 is a 75-inch 4K UHD QLED TV with Google TV, a listed 144 Hz variable refresh rate and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. Those specifications make it worth considering if you want a large screen for streaming or compatible gaming devices, but they do not establish real-world picture quality, gaming responsiveness or sound quality. Philips publishes the model’s specifications; the publicly visible CHOICE page does not expose its expert rating or all test results.
What the Philips 75PQT9020/79 offers
Philips describes this as a “9000 series 4K UHD QLED TV” and promotes Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Google TV and HDMI VRR. The phrase “will always give you a vibrant picture” is Philips’ marketing claim, not an independent test finding. Is it a fit for gaming?
The headline gaming specification is 144 Hz VRR, alongside Philips-listed input modes up to 4K at 144 Hz. To benefit, the source device, game, connection and TV settings must support the relevant mode. A PC or console that cannot output a compatible high-refresh signal will not gain that capability simply by connecting to the TV.
The available information does not establish measured input lag, response time, or how particular gaming modes perform. If responsiveness is central to your purchase, look for independent testing that names its measurement method and settings, and confirm the ports and mode requirements for your own device. The HDMI 3 eARC connection may be needed for a soundbar, so account for that when allocating the three HDMI inputs.

Google TV, streaming and connectivity
Google TV is the listed operating system, with 32 GB of flash memory; Philips warns that usable storage can differ. App availability is region-dependent, so confirm that the services you use are offered in Australia before buying. The TV also lists dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Ethernet for network access.
For connected equipment, the model sheet lists three HDMI and three USB connections, plus Bluetooth 5.0, optical digital audio out and a 3.5 mm audio out. It specifies HDMI 3 for eARC and lists a maximum HDMI data rate of 48 Gbps in its HDMI features section. Check each device’s required format and connection, rather than assuming every feature works identically across devices; HDMI-CEC interoperability may be limited.

Picture and sound: what the specifications do not tell you
The 4K resolution, QLED description and HDR format support identify the panel and formats Philips lists, but they are not substitutes for measured picture testing. The available public information does not establish brightness, contrast, colour accuracy, motion handling or HDR performance. Philips’ promise of a “vibrant picture” is promotional language.

Likewise, 30 W total speaker output and Dolby Atmos processing do not establish how the built-in speakers sound in your room. If you plan to add a soundbar, HDMI 3 is the eARC connection; verify that the soundbar supports the audio formats you intend to use.

Philips lists the dimensions and weights below. Measure the intended location and check the stand footprint and clearance as well as screen width.

The listed wall-mount dimensions are 500 × 300 mm. Confirm that a mount matches this pattern, can safely support the TV’s weight, and is suitable for the wall and installation conditions. Philips lists a table-top stand among the included items; the specification sheet also lists a remote control, power cord, quick-start guide, legal and safety brochure, user manual and two AAA batteries.

Check the warranty terms that apply to your jurisdiction and purchase date. JB Hi-Fi also lists the exact 75PQT9020/79 model and states a three-year manufacturer warranty, but confirm the live retailer listing and applicable terms before relying on them. - Confirm the listing is for the Australian 75PQT9020/79 variant, not a similarly named model or another regional version.
- Measure the room, stand area or wall, and check the mount’s 500 × 300 mm pattern, load rating and installation suitability if wall mounting.
