The Philips 65PQT9020/79 is a 65-inch 4K UHD QLED television with Google TV, Dolby Vision and manufacturer-listed 144Hz variable refresh support. Its official specifications make it a potentially capable choice for console and PC gaming, but they do not establish how bright its HDR picture gets, how quickly it responds, or how it performs in a real room. This review separates confirmed features from the performance questions buyers should verify before purchasing.

What the Philips 65PQT9020/79 offers

Philips identifies the /79 as a 65-inch (164 cm) 4K UHD QLED TV with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 3840 × 2160 resolution. The manufacturer lists Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG support, along with Google TV and Dolby Atmos sound enhancement. These are listed capabilities, not independent picture or audio test results. Philips’ Australian product page describes the model; its model-specific technical sheet supplies the detailed specifications.

Does the Philips 65PQT9020/79 support 144Hz?

Yes, Philips lists 144Hz VRR and includes 3840 × 2160 at up to 144Hz in its supported input-resolution combinations. The same table lists 4K at 24, 25, 30, 50, 60, 100, 120 and 144Hz, as well as 1440p at 60 and 120Hz. Philips states an HDMI VRR range of 48–144Hz.

This confirms specified input modes, not that every source, game, cable or HDMI configuration will deliver 4K at 144Hz. Nor does it establish low input lag, smooth motion in practice or gaming certification. Buyers planning a PC setup should check the graphics output, game settings, cable capability and TV port arrangement together.

HDMI connections and eARC

The TV has three HDMI connections, with eARC assigned to HDMI 3. Philips describes HDMI 2.1 features and specifies a maximum data rate of 48 Gbps, but the sheet does not justify assuming that all three ports provide identical capabilities. Check the required port for each console, PC and soundbar before installation; using HDMI 3 for eARC affects which connection is available for another source.

Picture quality: what the specifications can and cannot tell you

QLED and HDR-format support describe the display technology and content formats the manufacturer lists; they do not quantify the on-screen result. The available exact-model material does not provide independently measured peak brightness, contrast, local-dimming behavior, tone mapping, screen reflectance, viewing angles or color performance. Dolby Vision support alone is not evidence of strong HDR impact: that depends on the panel’s measured performance and processing, neither of which is established here.

Google TV, sound and everyday use

Philips specifies Google TV, 32GB of flash memory and built-in Google Assistant. Its technical sheet names several streaming and Google apps, but app availability can change with location, operator and firmware. These specifications do not establish how responsive the interface is, how long software updates will continue, or which apps are currently available to Australian users.

The built-in audio is specified at 30W RMS across two 15W speakers, with Dolby Atmos listed as a sound enhancement. Those figures and format support do not indicate how clear dialogue sounds, how much bass the set produces, or how convincing its sound is in a particular room; no controlled listening assessment is available for this exact model.

Will it fit your room and wall?

With the stand, the television measures 1446 × 860 × 300mm and weighs 16.5kg. Without the stand, it measures 1446 × 838 × 95mm and weighs 16kg. Philips lists a 300 × 300mm VESA mounting pattern. Confirm that a wall mount supports this pattern and the TV’s weight, and check wall construction, installation requirements and clearance before mounting.

Philips Australia’s product page displayed 4.1 out of 5 from 33 reviews when accessed in 2026. However, surfaced review excerpts included entries explicitly associated with other screen sizes or models, so this aggregate cannot be confidently treated as a score for the 65PQT9020/79 alone. Philips says its customer opinions and ratings are managed through Bazaarvoice and may be submitted by people who purchased online or in store.

Philips’ Australian support page lists a localized commercial leaflet dated 19 March 2025 and a user manual dated 17 March 2025, and provides access to warranty and service information. Confirm the current Australian warranty terms and coverage for the unit you are buying rather than assuming a duration.

Who should consider the Philips 65-inch QLED TV?

On documented features alone, this model may suit buyers who want a 65-inch 4K screen, Google TV, Dolby Vision compatibility and specified 144Hz VRR input support. It is also worth investigating for a gaming setup that can use high-refresh input modes, provided the source and port arrangement meet the plan.

It is harder to recommend on picture quality, HDR impact, motion, sound or responsiveness without independent testing of the exact model. Buyers for whom those qualities determine the decision should look for exact-model measurements or arrange a viewing, and compare current prices, warranty terms and competing sets on the same date.
