The Philips 55PQT9020/79 is a 55-inch 4K QLED television with Google TV, Dolby Vision and advertised support for refresh rates up to 144 Hz. Those specifications make it worth considering for mixed streaming and gaming, but they do not establish how bright, responsive or good-sounding it is in practice. The available public evidence confirms the feature list, not independent performance results.
What is the Philips 55PQT9020/79?
Philips describes the 55PQT9020/79 as a 55-inch 4K UHD QLED TV running Google TV. Its specification sheet lists a 3840 × 2160 resolution, with HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision support. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified picture-quality results. Philips’ product page identifies the exact model.
CHOICE also has a listing for the exact model, but the public page does not disclose its expert rating or detailed test results. It therefore cannot support a claim that CHOICE recommends or criticizes this TV. CHOICE’s listing shows a price and warranty field, discussed below.
What does its 144 Hz gaming specification mean?
Philips lists variable refresh rate up to 144 Hz and supported input timings that include 4K at 24, 25, 30, 50, 60, 100, 120 and 144 Hz, plus 1080p up to 144 Hz. This is a signal-support specification: it indicates the timings the TV is advertised as accepting, not the quality of its gaming performance. Philips’ specification PDF, dated 21 March 2025, is the source for these figures.

The listed maximum does not establish input lag, motion clarity, or whether a particular console, PC, cable and port combination will deliver a given resolution and refresh rate. If gaming is important, verify the output modes supported by your source device and check independent testing for response and motion performance before buying.
Ports, wireless and smart TV features
Philips lists three HDMI ports and three USB ports. HDMI 3 is identified as the eARC connection; the specification sheet also lists HDMI 2.1 features and a maximum data rate of 48 Gbps. The TV has Wi-Fi 802.11ac dual band, Bluetooth 5.0, Ethernet and an optical digital audio output. These are manufacturer-listed connections, not a guarantee that every feature is available on every port or in every setup.

What is known about the sound?
Philips specifies two 15 W speakers and lists Dolby Atmos support. These figures and format support do not establish perceived loudness, bass, dialogue clarity or a convincing surround effect in a room. If built-in sound is a deciding factor, look for an independent listening test of this exact model rather than treating the format label as a performance result.
CHOICE listing, price and warranty
CHOICE’s public exact-model page displays AUD 1,599 and a three-year warranty field. The price is an undated page snapshot accessed in 2026, not a current retailer quote; the warranty field should also be checked against the terms that apply to the unit and seller you are considering. CHOICE reserves its detailed test results, expert rating, pros and cons, reliability and satisfaction information for members, so those findings cannot be assessed from the public listing alone.

What to check before buying
- Current Australian price and warranty: Compare live retailer prices and confirm the warranty terms for the exact 55PQT9020/79 model and seller.
- Picture performance: Seek independent measurements or testing for brightness, contrast, reflections, HDR performance and viewing angles. The manufacturer specification establishes supported formats and resolution, not how the screen performs.
- Gaming compatibility: Match your console or PC’s required resolution and refresh rate to the TV’s input support, and look for measured response and motion results.
- Connections: Check whether three HDMI ports meet your needs, especially if HDMI 3 will be occupied by an eARC soundbar or receiver.
- Apps and sound: Confirm that the streaming apps you use are available in your region, and seek independent dialogue and speaker testing if built-in audio matters.
Philips’ support page for the model lists a localized commercial leaflet dated 5 August 2025 and a user manual dated 17 March 2025, as well as warranty and service navigation. Consult the documentation for setup and terms that apply in Australia.
