The Philips 55OLED+908 is a convincing premium all-in-one TV: its OLED picture is bright and detailed, its integrated Bowers & Wilkins speakers are unusually capable, and three-sided Ambilight adds a distinctive room-lighting effect. The drawbacks matter if you are shopping for a flagship: it has only two HDMI 2.1 inputs, Stuff’s review notes no Freeview Play, and its price was considered poor value at the time. Whether it is worth buying now depends on your local price, stock, and how well its ports and software fit your setup.
What is the Philips 55OLED+908?
The 55OLED+908 is Philips’ 55-inch OLED television, identified on Philips’ regional product page as model 55OLED908/12. The official specification lists 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840 × 2160), a native 120 Hz refresh rate, the P5 AI Perfect Picture Engine, Google TV, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ Adaptive, Filmmaker Mode, IMAX Enhanced mode, and three-sided next-generation Ambilight. Philips also lists 65-inch and 77-inch versions in the family. Features and support can differ by region, so check the full model suffix on a listing.
Stuff’s review sample used a META OLED panel and seventh-generation P5 AI processing. Its listed connections include two HDMI 2.1 ports, two HDMI 2.0 ports, three USB ports, optical audio, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Stuff also lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG support. See Stuff’s Philips 55OLED+908 review and Philips’ 55OLED908/12 product specifications.

Stuff awarded the set 5/5, praising its bright, high-contrast, detailed images, particularly with HDR sources. AVForums’ 2023 measurements add useful context: on its 55-inch sample, in HDR Filmmaker Mode, it measured 1,173 nits on an industry-standard 10% window and 231 nits full screen. These are reviewer measurements under specified test conditions, not guaranteed readings for every television or room.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those two measurements describe different aspects of performance. A 10% window represents a smaller bright area, while the full-screen figure reflects output across the whole display. AVForums notes that the accurate Filmmaker Mode result is lower for specular highlights than competing flagship sets, while the full-screen output compares well with stronger models. In practice, consider whether you prioritize faithful picture settings or the most intense small highlights; brighter, less accurate presets may change the balance. Read AVForums’ Philips OLED908 review for its test context.
Does the built-in sound remove the need for a soundbar?
The integrated Bowers & Wilkins system is one of the set’s strongest features. Stuff describes a 3.1-channel arrangement with a central speaker and a rear-mounted subwoofer, and praises the sound as part of the TV’s appeal. That makes the 55OLED+908 a more compelling all-in-one choice than a TV whose audio is merely an afterthought.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.

Whether it replaces a separate sound system is a personal decision: the review establishes that the built-in system is capable, but does not provide a controlled comparison against a particular soundbar or home-cinema setup. If you already own an audio system, account for that before paying a premium for integrated speakers.
What does Ambilight add?
Three-sided Ambilight projects colored light from the back of the television onto the wall behind it. Philips identifies it as a feature of the 55OLED908/12, and Stuff includes it among the set’s highlights. It changes the viewing atmosphere and may be a major part of the appeal if you like the effect; it is not a picture-quality feature, so its value depends on your room and preferences.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

What are the main drawbacks?
- Two HDMI 2.1 ports: Stuff lists two HDMI 2.1 and two HDMI 2.0 inputs. Count the devices that need HDMI 2.1—such as a console, gaming PC, or receiver—before buying, and check the connection needs of your full setup.
- No Freeview Play: Stuff identifies the absence of Freeview Play as a drawback. If you rely on it for UK catch-up TV, confirm which apps and live-TV services are available on the exact regional model.
- Price and age of market information: Stuff considered the TV expensive for what it offered at its review date. Philips’ German product page says the 55OLED908/12 is no longer available in that market and displays an indicative recommended price of €2,699. That is regional product-page information, not a current price or availability claim for other countries.
Is the Philips 55OLED+908 worth buying?
It is worth considering if you want a bright, detailed OLED, value a strong built-in speaker system, and actively want Ambilight. It is a less straightforward choice if you need more than two HDMI 2.1 inputs, depend on Freeview Play, or would pay extra for features you will not use.
There is no controlled, current head-to-head comparison here that establishes it as better than competing televisions. Before committing, check the exact regional model, current seller and price, stock, return terms, preferred screen size, and whether Google TV offers the services you need. The review evidence supports a positive view of the TV itself, but not a conclusion about today’s value without a live local offer.
