The Philips 32PHT6529/79 is a compact 32-inch Google TV with a native 1366 x 768 HD panel. It is not a 4K television. It makes sense for a bedroom, kitchen, study or small office where the viewer sits close and wants built-in streaming apps and voice control at a low cost. It is a weaker choice for a main living-room screen, for 4K sources, or for anyone expecting fine detail at a distance.
What the Philips 32PHT6529/79 is
The 32PHT6529/79 belongs to Philips’ 6500 series of Smart LED TVs in Australia. Philips’ Australian product page lists it as an 80 cm (32-inch) screen running Google TV. The “/79” suffix identifies the Australian variant covered here, so check it against any retailer listing before you buy.
The size label needs one clarification. 80 cm is about 31.5 inches, so the “32-inch” name is a rounded class label. CHOICE’s Australian listing calls the same set a 31-inch TV, which is the same screen measured more literally.

Picture quality and the HD question
The panel is 1366 x 768. That is the most important fact about this set. On a short viewing distance, HD can look sharp enough for news, sitcoms and everyday streaming. Once the screen is larger or the viewer sits farther back, the lower pixel count shows, and 4K sources are displayed at a lower resolution than they were produced at.
HDR10 and HLG appear in the picture-mode and format lists. Listing HDR support does not make the panel high resolution, and it does not mean the set can show HDR the way a higher-resolution panel with stronger brightness can. Philips has not published an independent brightness or colour figure for this model in the sources reviewed.
No independent lab test results for picture quality are publicly available for this model. CHOICE publishes a rating page, but its detailed test results are restricted to members on the page we could see. This article therefore does not report measured contrast, brightness, motion or colour performance.

Apps, voice and streaming
Google TV is the core of the set. Philips lists YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Google Search, YouTube Music, Netflix and Google Play Movies. Philips’ product copy describes the platform this way: “Google TV brings together movies, shows, and more from across your apps and subscriptions, and organises them just for you.” That is Philips marketing language, not an independent assessment.
Three practical points follow from the specification:
- App lineup varies. Philips notes that app offerings differ by model and country, so an app shown on a product page may not be available in your region.
- Subscriptions are separate. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and similar services need their own paid accounts.
- Voice control is built in. The remote has a microphone and Google Assistant is integrated, so you can search by voice from the remote without a separate speaker.
Connections and Bluetooth headphones
The set has the following inputs and outputs, as listed by Philips:
Rank #3
- Hi-QLED Color: Hi-QLED technology makes every shade, scene and skin tone look true-to-life, rendering every scene convincingly real, just as the creator intended.

- Headphone output.
- IEC75 antenna connection for over-the-air reception.
- Optical digital audio out.
- Ethernet LAN.
- Mini AV plus left and right audio input.
Bluetooth 5.0 is listed, so the set can connect to wireless headphones and some speakers. The specification does not say which headphone or audio profiles are supported or how much audio delay to expect with a given pair. If you plan to use headphones for late-night viewing, pair your own pair in the store or check its compatibility before buying.

For a sound system, the optical output and HDMI eARC on HDMI 1 are the practical routes. The two built-in 10 W speakers are the set’s own output and will be modest in a larger room.
Size, stand and wall mounting
Dimensions and weight are listed by Philips as follows:

- EXPANDED CONTRAST FOR ENHANCED VISUAL DETAIL: Get expanded contrast between the lightest and darkest parts of a scene for a wide spectrum of colors, enhanced detail and depth.

| Configuration | Size (W x H x D) | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Without stand | 717 x 430 x 82 mm | 3.9 kg |
| With table-top stand | 717 x 459 x 242 mm | 4.2 kg |
Philips lists a 200 x 200 mm wall-mount measurement. Before buying a bracket, check its hole pattern, the wall’s load rating, the cable routing behind the set, and the clearance needed for the HDMI and power plugs. The specification does not name a tested or recommended mount, so confirm the fit yourself.
Price and availability
CHOICE’s Australian listing shows a price of $299.00. That figure was observed on the listing page only. It is not confirmed as a current selling price, and stock is not confirmed either. Check the live price with your retailer before deciding.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat the ratings do and do not tell you
The Philips Australia page displays a user rating of 3.8 out of 5 from 29 reviews. User ratings are useful for spotting recurring complaints, but they are not controlled tests, and the count and average change as reviews are added. Some review text on manufacturer pages covers related 40-inch, 43-inch and other 6500-series models, so it should not be read as evidence about this 32-inch set.
Best Value
- 1080p Resolution: Watch movies and TV shows in high-definition picture quality.
- LED-backlit LCD screen: With reliable and long-lasting LED lighting, this LCD screen delivers a wide range of colors and contrast for a memorable viewing experience.
- Watch what you want: Stream over 1.5 million movies and TV episodes. Watch favorites with subscriptions to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and more. Subscription fees may apply.
- All your entertainment in one place: Watch live and free TV, play video games, and stream music.
- Smart and always getting smarter: Fire TV adds new Alexa skills, features, smart home capabilities, and voice functionality all the time.
Who should buy it, and who should look elsewhere
- Good fit: a bedroom, kitchen or study TV, viewed from a short distance, where a built-in Google TV platform and voice search matter more than resolution.
- Good fit: a second screen for casual streaming, news and sport, with headphones or a sound bar connected through the optical or eARC route.
- Look elsewhere: a main living-room screen, any need for 4K, or a requirement for high-refresh gaming. The specification does not establish gaming input lag or refresh rate, and it lists no HDMI 2.1 or 4K-at-120 Hz capability.
- Look elsewhere: a buyer who needs a specific app that is not available in their country, or who wants independently published picture measurements before committing.
When comparing it with other models, check five things: resolution and screen size, the smart platform and which apps your region supports, the HDMI, USB and audio connections you need, the wall-mount and physical fit, and the current price and warranty.
