Persona 4 Golden is a role-playing game about balancing ordinary life with a mystery investigation. What should I know before I start Persona 4 Golden?
The game alternates between daily life in town and school, and investigating the mystery in the TV World. ATLUS describes activities such as meeting friends, working part-time, and studying alongside battles against Shadows. These are connected systems: time spent on relationships can deepen Social Links, while other activities can develop personal qualities or help you prepare for the investigation. How should I spend my time?
Choose activities according to what you want from that part of the game. Spending time with a character can advance a relationship; studying or another activity can improve a personal quality; and investigating or visiting a dungeon helps you move the mystery forward. ATLUS presents these as parts of the same daily-life and investigation loop, rather than as a single mandatory routine.

Availability can vary, and the sources cited here do not establish a complete optimal calendar or a guaranteed route to max every Social Link in one playthrough. If completing every link is your goal, use a separate, spoiler-aware walkthrough that accounts for deadlines; this guide sticks to flexible principles for a first run.
What are Social Links, and why do they matter?
Social Links represent relationships you choose to develop. ATLUS says deeper bonds enable stronger Personas, giving social time a direct gameplay benefit as well as a story role. The official site puts the choice plainly: “You choose who you want to spend your time with and which Social Links to develop!”

Treat it as orientation rather than a promise about which characters are available on a given day or how many you can complete without planning.

How does combat work?
Combat is turn-based. You fight Shadows using weapon attacks and Persona skills, and the most useful beginner habit is to test and exploit enemy weaknesses. ATLUS explains that hitting a weakness knocks an enemy down and triggers 1 MORE, giving you another action. If all enemies are knocked down, you may be able to launch an All-Out Attack. ATLUS’s game overview describes these combat basics.
Use weakness hits to build momentum
When a skill or attack reveals a weakness, remember it and use that opening to gain another action. Knocking down the full enemy group can create an opportunity for an All-Out Attack, so identifying weaknesses is more than a way to deal damage: it can shape the flow of a turn.

Keep Persona options open
The protagonist’s Persona gains levels in battle, and Personas can also be fused from others obtained through combat. Because you can hold multiple Personas and fuse them for different situations, avoid relying on only one option. Learn what your available Personas can do and keep alternatives that help you respond to different encounters.
Which difficulty should a beginner choose?
ATLUS says difficulty can be selected at the start and does not affect the story. It specifically identifies Very Easy and Easy as options for players who want a more comfortable pace. Choose one if you would rather give the story and exploration more room than make battles demanding. If you prefer a greater combat challenge, select a setting that feels right for you.

Can I save without reaching a save point?
ATLUS’s promotional page for the current release says quick save is available without visiting a designated save point. Use it when you need to stop away from one; the cited information does not specify further platform-specific save behavior. See ATLUS’s Persona 4 Golden site.
Do I need a controller to play on PC?
No specific controller is required by the Steam listing, but Steam says its version is best experienced with a game controller. Treat that as a recommendation rather than a requirement: use a controller if it is your preferred way to play, or keep your own control method if it suits you.
