CBS Sports/RotoWire reported on October 1, 2026, that Pittsburgh Penguins forward Oliver Okuliar was assigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton while dealing with a lower-body injury. The Penguins had said six days earlier that he was injured non-roster and continuing rehabilitation in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The later report does not establish that he has been cleared to play.
What the reported assignment means
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is Pittsburgh’s primary American Hockey League developmental affiliate, so the reported assignment places Okuliar with the Penguins’ AHL club. CBS Sports/RotoWire reported the move on October 1 and attributed it to the AHL’s official site, but a corresponding official transaction notice was not located. Accordingly, the specific assignment is best described as reported, rather than independently confirmed by a primary transaction record.
What is known about Okuliar’s injury status
In a September 25 update, the Penguins said Okuliar had been designated injured non-roster and would continue his rehabilitation in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The October 1 report described him as having a lower-body injury. Neither update confirms that he was medically cleared to practice or play, and the September statement predates the reported assignment.

How Okuliar joined Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh announced on June 13, 2026, that it acquired Okuliar’s rights from Florida in exchange for defenseman Emil Pieniniemi. Florida described the deal as an exchange of Pieniniemi for Okuliar’s rights. Pittsburgh’s announcement called Okuliar an unsigned restricted free agent at that time; that dated description does not establish his current contract status.

It also recorded two points in six games for Slovakia at the 2026 Olympics and five points in seven games at the 2026 World Championship.
