Penguin Solutions’ Q3 FY2026 sales rose 47.6% year over year, but the growth was concentrated: Integrated Memory more than doubled and supplied most of the increase. Advanced Computing was only modestly higher for the quarter and remained sharply lower over the first nine months. Gross margin also fell. The results show substantial reported growth associated with AI demand, but they do not establish that all of Penguin’s growth is AI revenue—or that the growth is equally durable or profitable across its businesses.

Is Penguin Solutions’ AI growth real?

Yes, in the specific sense that Penguin reported strong sales growth and attributed part of its Integrated Memory demand to AI. In Q3 FY2026, ended May 29, 2026, net sales were $478.713 million, up 47.6% from $324.251 million a year earlier. The company said the increase was primarily driven by Integrated Memory. Its July 7 earnings release described Integrated Memory sales as more than doubling year over year and said its AI Infrastructure business continued to build momentum. Those are company-reported results and management’s characterization, not independent measurements of the wider AI infrastructure market.

Penguin describes its business as providing memory and AI infrastructure for enterprise, sovereign AI and neocloud customers. Its stated platform combines infrastructure software, advanced memory, compute systems, services and partner solutions. The company’s earnings release is available from Penguin Solutions’ Q3 FY2026 results announcement, and the detailed segment figures and risk disclosures appear in its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended May 29, 2026.

How much of Penguin’s revenue comes from AI?

The reported figures do not give a standalone dollar amount or percentage for AI revenue. They report sales by business segment, while the company attributes some memory demand and some Advanced Computing strength to AI-related activity. Integrated Memory therefore should not be treated as synonymous with AI revenue, and Penguin’s total sales should not be described as AI sales.

The segment mix makes clear where the reported growth was concentrated:

Business Q3 FY2026 sales Q3 year-over-year change First-nine-month year-over-year change
Advanced Computing $137.583 million Up $5.1 million, or 3.8% Down $105.3 million, or 20.6%
Integrated Memory $275.067 million Up $144.9 million, or 111.4% Up $251.1 million, or 75.6%
Optimized LED $66.063 million Up $4.4 million, or 7.2% Down $11.9 million, or 6.3%
Total $478.713 million Up 47.6% in net sales Not stated here as a comparable total growth figure

All segment sales and changes above are reported by Penguin Solutions in its Q3 FY2026 Form 10-Q; the nine-month period is the first nine months of fiscal 2026 compared with the corresponding period a year earlier. Integrated Memory was the largest segment in the quarter and its $144.9 million increase exceeded the company’s $154.462 million increase in consolidated quarterly sales. That is why the headline growth rate needs a mix explanation.

Which Penguin Solutions business is growing fastest?

Integrated Memory

Integrated Memory grew fastest by a wide margin in Q3, rising 111.4% year over year to $275.067 million. Penguin attributed the increase to DRAM and Flash momentum, with AI-driven demand supporting favorable pricing and higher volume. The company reported 75.6% growth over the first nine months as well, so this was not only a one-quarter increase in the reported comparison. Memory pricing, however, is volatile; a favorable price and volume environment can change, and the reported growth rate should not be treated as a permanent run rate.

Advanced Computing

Advanced Computing generated $137.583 million in Q3 sales, up 3.8% year over year. Penguin cited strength in non-hyperscale AI infrastructure, partly offset by the wind-down of Penguin Edge. The nine-month comparison was much weaker: sales fell 20.6%, in part because hyperscale hardware sales in the prior-year period did not recur. The quarter’s modest increase therefore does not erase the broader year-to-date decline.

Optimized LED

Optimized LED contributed $66.063 million in Q3 sales, up 7.2% from a year earlier. Penguin attributed quarterly growth to stronger channel demand and higher direct sales, while the first-nine-month result was down 6.3% amid broadly weaker demand. It is a smaller part of the reported sales mix and had mixed direction across the quarter and year-to-date periods.

Why did revenue rise while gross margin fell?

Q3 gross margin was 27.8%, compared with 29.3% a year earlier. For the first nine months, gross margin was 27.7%, down from 28.9%. Penguin attributed the declines primarily to the Penguin Edge wind-down and a shift in sales mix across business units.

Revenue growth measures the dollars sold; gross margin measures the share of those sales left after cost of revenue. A faster-growing business can add substantial sales without raising the blended margin if its economics or the overall mix differ from the businesses it outweighs. The reported combination—rapid memory growth alongside lower consolidated gross margin—means sales growth alone is not evidence of improving profitability.

What could change the growth and margin picture?

Penguin’s 10-Q describes a transition away from hyperscaler concentration toward a more diversified non-hyperscaler base spanning enterprise, neocloud and sovereign AI customers. It warns that the transition could negatively affect sales. The filing also says short-term fixed resource commitments can make changes in expected sales mix affect operating income and margins.

  • Memory pricing and volume: DRAM and Flash pricing can move, changing the contribution of Integrated Memory to revenue and margins.
  • Customer concentration and order timing: large customer orders can make quarterly comparisons uneven; the filing identifies both concentration and timing as risks.
  • Mix and demand: shifts among business units, customer types and products can affect profitability even when consolidated sales rise.
  • Supply availability: constraints can affect the company’s ability to meet demand.
  • Penguin Edge wind-down: Penguin expected the wind-down to be completed by the end of FY2026; its effects can influence comparisons and margins during the transition.

Penguin also announced that it became an NVIDIA AI Factory Specialized Partner and received Dell Technologies Global Alliances Americas AI Partner of the Year recognition. These announcements establish partner status and recognition; they do not independently validate future revenue or guarantee customer demand.

How should investors read Penguin’s FY2026 guidance?

In its July 7, 2026 earnings release, Penguin forecast FY2026 net-sales growth of 22%, plus or minus 2%. It also forecast GAAP diluted EPS of $1.97, plus or minus $0.05, and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $2.60, plus or minus $0.05. These are management’s forward-looking estimates, not reported full-year results. The company’s release cautions that outlook and AI-demand statements are subject to risks and uncertainty.

The reported quarter and the guidance answer different questions: Q3’s 47.6% sales increase is an observed year-over-year result, while 22%, plus or minus 2%, is the company’s full-year growth outlook as of July 7. Neither figure by itself establishes how much revenue is directly attributable to AI or how profitable future growth will be. For subsequent filings, Penguin’s quarterly-results page lists its financial materials; the figures here reflect the Q3 FY2026 materials surfaced through October 3, 2026.
