In PCMag’s 2022 Canadian gaming ISP results, Valley Fiber ranked first among all providers, while Bell led the separate major-provider group. Those were different categories in a historical ranking—not a permanent nationwide verdict. Later PCMag results named Bell Canada a Best Gaming ISP and identified Valley Fiber for gaming quality, while a 2026 telMAX announcement described a newer PCMag recognition. The year and category matter whenever you compare these results.
What PCMag’s Bell and Valley Fiber result means
MobileSyrup’s December 2021 account of PCMag’s 2022 report drew a distinction between the top provider overall and the top major provider: Valley Fiber ranked first overall, and Bell ranked first among major providers. Bell’s placement therefore does not contradict Valley Fiber’s overall lead; they refer to different groupings.
The ranking used PCMag’s Gaming Quality Index (GQI), which MobileSyrup described as an average based on customer latency and jitter tests. Lower GQI scores indicate better gaming quality. The reported scores were:
| Provider | GQI | How to read the result |
|---|---|---|
| Valley Fiber | 5.9 | Top-ranked overall in the 2022 results reported by MobileSyrup. |
| Novus | 12.1 | One of the other providers listed in the same historical comparison. |
| FibreStream | 12.7 | One of the other providers listed in the same historical comparison. |
| Bell | 19.9 | Led the separate major-provider group, despite Valley Fiber’s lower overall GQI. |
These figures describe that edition’s test results, not the connection quality a household will necessarily get today. They also do not establish that every Bell or Valley Fiber customer will experience the same latency or jitter.

How the later rankings differ
PCMag’s 2025 Canadian gaming ISP article excerpt named Bell Canada a national Best Gaming ISP and said Valley Fiber had the best gaming quality. The article based its speed and quality scores on 237,095 PCMag Speed Test results from Canadian ISP users, collected from October 1, 2023, through November 22, 2024. PCMag’s accessible excerpt does not provide enough detail to independently assess how the results were sampled, weighted, or which providers were included.
A later provider announcement adds another dated result: in January 2026, telMAX said it had earned PCMag’s fastest-overall gaming ISP recognition for a second year. That is a telMAX press-release claim, not a reason to treat every edition’s award labels as interchangeable.

Bell also reported that Bell Pure Fibre received Ookla’s “Best Internet Service Provider Gaming Experience” recognition for Q3–Q4 2025. That is an Ookla award reported by Bell’s parent company, BCE—not a PCMag result. The award name and measurement source should remain attached to the claim.
Is Bell good for gaming?
Bell has been recognized in more than one context: it led major providers in the 2022 PCMag results reported by MobileSyrup, was named a national Best Gaming ISP in PCMag’s 2025 article, and Bell Pure Fibre received a separate Ookla gaming-experience award for Q3–Q4 2025, as reported by BCE. These recognitions support considering Bell, but they do not guarantee the performance of a specific address, plan, or home network.

Is Valley Fiber better for gaming?
Valley Fiber’s 5.9 GQI made it the overall leader in the 2022 results reported by MobileSyrup, and PCMag’s 2025 article excerpt again described Valley Fiber as having the best gaming quality. That evidence makes it a strong contender where the service is available. It does not show that Valley Fiber is available everywhere in Canada or that it will outperform Bell at every location.
Does a faster internet plan reduce lag?
Not necessarily. The cited rankings consider gaming quality, including latency and jitter, alongside speed. A higher download-speed tier may help when a household’s bandwidth is insufficient for its simultaneous activities, but the ranking evidence does not show that buying more bandwidth by itself lowers latency to a game server. For gaming comparisons, check latency and jitter or gaming-quality results as well as advertised download and upload speeds.

How to compare providers at your address
A national award or ranking is a useful starting point, not a substitute for checking the service that can actually be installed at your home. Compare providers using the same practical criteria:
- Address-level availability: Confirm that the provider serves your exact address and what connection technology it offers there.
- Gaming-quality evidence: Look for latency and jitter results or a gaming-quality score, and note the test dates and sample behind them.
- Technology and speeds: Compare the available connection type and both download and upload speeds. Do not infer lower game-server latency from a faster advertised tier alone.
- Total plan terms: Check current pricing, contract terms, and any conditions that affect what you will pay or receive.
- Scope of the comparison: Distinguish a national result from a provincial or local one, and note whether an award covers all providers or only a major-provider group.
The cited ranking excerpts do not provide current address-level availability, plan prices, or enough plan detail to identify a universal best option. Verify those details with providers before switching.
