Worldwide PC shipments fell 20.1% year over year to an estimated 62.7 million in Q3 2026, according to IDC figures reported by Notebookcheck. The same report put shipments 9.1% below the previous quarter. These are shipment estimates—not a count of computers bought by consumers—and the available figures do not establish how much of the decline each market pressure caused.
What the Q3 2026 figures measure
The 20.1% decline compares Q3 2026 with Q3 2025. The separate 9.1% figure compares Q3 2026 with Q2 2026. The reported 62.7 million is the estimated number of PCs shipped worldwide during the quarter, as presented in Notebookcheck’s account of IDC estimates.
Shipments are not the same as retail sell-through: a PC shipped into a distribution channel is not necessarily already sold to an end user. The Q3 figures should also be treated as secondary reporting of IDC estimates; an original IDC Q3 tracker with definitions and full vendor data was not available to confirm here.

IDC’s broader outlook describes a market facing structural supply constraints, macroeconomic pressure, platform change, earlier purchasing pull-ins, and higher average selling prices. Its commentary provides context for weakness, but does not quantify how much any one factor contributed to the Q3 decline.

The pull-in hangover
When buyers bring planned purchases forward, later periods can look weaker because some demand has already been served. IDC identifies earlier pull-forward activity as part of the market backdrop; that does not prove it alone caused the Q3 result.
Supply limits and higher prices
IDC also points to supply constraints and rising average selling prices. Constraints can limit the number of systems available to ship, while higher prices can weigh on purchasing decisions. The available figures do not separate those effects from one another or from broader macroeconomic and platform-related pressures.

IDC and Gartner expect different full-year declines
The Q3 estimate is distinct from full-year forecasts. IDC’s 2026 outlook forecasts an 11.3% decline in worldwide PC shipments for the year and says the downturn could deepen in Q4. Separately, Gartner’s February 2026 forecast projected a 10.4% decline in worldwide PC shipments in 2026 and expected higher costs to extend PC lifetimes. These are forecasts from different firms, not competing measurements of Q3’s actual shipments; the available methodology does not support reconciling their estimates.
Lenovo remained the shipment leader in the reported figures
Notebookcheck’s report of IDC estimates put Lenovo at 14.9 million shipments and 23.8% share in Q3 2026, despite a 22.6% year-over-year decline. These figures are useful as a broad indication of the vendor ranking, but should be read cautiously without the original IDC vendor table and its definitions.

What the decline does—and does not—show
- It indicates a sharp year-over-year contraction in estimated worldwide PC shipments, with a further sequential decline.
- It does not directly show the change in consumer purchases, retail sales, or installed PC use.
- It does not establish a precise cause for the decline or apportion it among supply constraints, pull-ins, prices, and other pressures.
- It should not be used alone to infer that a particular PC category, vendor, or region declined by the same amount.
