If a PayPal payment is marked Completed, PayPal says the money is in the recipient’s PayPal account. Getting it into a bank account is a separate step: PayPal’s estimates vary by transfer method and country, and the bank may take additional time to post the funds.
When does money arrive in a PayPal account?
Check the payment’s status in PayPal Activity. PayPal’s US payment-status guidance defines “Completed” as a successful transaction with the money in the recipient’s account. That means the payment has arrived in PayPal; it does not mean a later withdrawal to a bank is complete.
A payment that is not completed may be pending, held, or unclaimed. The status and transaction details indicate what is happening and whether you need to act.

PayPal says a pending payment may be under review or awaiting verification of its payment source. In the US, an eCheck usually takes up to 7 business days to clear. Check the transaction details for the reason and follow any instructions from PayPal.

Held
A hold can make funds temporarily unavailable to use or withdraw, for example while PayPal handles a dispute or review. Check the transaction and Resolution Center, along with any PayPal notice, for instructions specific to the payment.
Unclaimed
In the US, PayPal says an unclaimed transaction is automatically canceled after 30 days if the recipient does not claim it. Check the transaction status rather than treating an unclaimed payment as money already received.

How long does a PayPal withdrawal to a bank take?
Withdrawal estimates depend on the country and method. PayPal’s published US and UK help guidance gives different timeframes; these are service estimates, not a universal guarantee.

These figures come from PayPal’s US and UK withdrawal guidance. They do not establish the timing for other countries, and not every account will have every transfer method. Check the estimate PayPal shows for your account and destination.

Why can a completed withdrawal still be missing?
A withdrawal marked “Complete” means PayPal has processed or sent it; it does not necessarily mean the receiving bank has posted the money. PayPal identifies reviews, bank processing, and incorrect or mismatched bank details as possible causes of delay. Its UK user agreement also notes that banks and payment systems are involved after a withdrawal instruction.
Instant and standard transfers are not the only possible distinction: linked debit-card withdrawals may be offered for some accounts, but availability and timing depend on the account and country. Use the timing displayed by PayPal for the destination you selected rather than assuming card and bank transfers follow the same schedule.

What to check if the money has not arrived
- Open PayPal Activity. Select the specific payment or withdrawal and read its status and transaction details.
- If an incoming payment is pending, look for an eCheck, payment-source verification, review, or hold. Follow any PayPal email or Resolution Center notice.
- If it is an unclaimed payment, check whether the recipient needs to claim it and review the status for any cancellation or return.
- If a withdrawal is still processing, compare the elapsed time with PayPal’s estimate for your country and transfer method, allowing for weekends and holidays where applicable.
- If PayPal marks the withdrawal complete, verify the linked bank or card details and allow for the receiving institution’s processing. If the applicable estimate has passed, contact the bank; for an instant transfer, PayPal’s US guidance says to contact it if the money has not arrived after 30 minutes.
Which timing should you rely on?
Use the status of the transaction to identify which stage is delayed: receipt into PayPal, clearance of a pending payment, or withdrawal to a bank or card. The timeframes above are specific to PayPal’s US and UK guidance; for another country, consult the local PayPal help information and the estimate shown for your account. A hold, review, payment method, holiday, or bank process can change the actual wait.
