Paymo is worth considering if you manage client projects and want task management, billable time tracking, and invoicing connected in one service. Its main trade-off is that the Free and Solo plans are single-user tiers, while several advanced team-planning tools require Pro. The official pricing page lists a 15-day trial and USD prices, including a temporary promotion; check the current checkout price before choosing a plan.
What is Paymo?
Paymo is a cloud work-management service aimed at freelancers, independent professionals, agencies, and small teams handling client work. Its central proposition is to connect project and task work with time tracking and client billing. Estimates, expenses, collaboration, and project profitability are also part of the product bundle, according to Paymo’s feature page.
Paymo advertises browser, desktop, and mobile time tracking, timesheet reports, and automatic tracking through Paymo Track. For task work, it lists list, Kanban, spreadsheet, and calendar views, plus subtasks and comments. Other advertised capabilities include team scheduling, Gantt charts, client or guest collaboration, proofing and file sharing, invoices, estimates, expense tracking, online payments, and project and client profitability tools. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independently tested results.
Paymo’s homepage says the product is used by “100,000+ independent professionals and small teams across the globe.” That is a vendor-published figure; independent confirmation is not established here.

Paymo pricing in 2026
The official pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists four plans in USD and advertises a 15-day free trial. It showed a promotion for new customers or accounts created after September 25, 2026. Because the promotion is time-limited, treat the promotional prices below as a snapshot, not permanent rates. The page also describes annual-billing discounts of up to 40%, depending on plan.

Plan prices and feature allocations are those displayed by Paymo on the pricing page accessed October 7, 2026; confirm current terms and billing options on Paymo’s pricing page. The distinction that matters most for budgeting is seats: Free and Solo are limited to one user, while Plus and Pro allow unlimited users and charge per user per month at the displayed rates. A team moving beyond one person therefore needs to account for recurring seat costs.

What Paymo does well
It connects client work to billable time and invoices
For service businesses, the practical appeal is having tasks, time entries, and invoicing in the same product rather than treating them as completely separate workflows. Paymo also lists estimates, expenses, online payments, and profitability features, which may help teams keep project administration alongside delivery work.

There is a useful feature progression across plans
The plan ladder moves from individual task and time basics toward reporting, profitability, proofing, and deeper planning. Plus is the first plan in the listed comparison to include project profitability, timesheet reports, recurring invoices, estimates and expenses, integrations, and API access. Pro adds dependencies, Gantt planning, workload and scheduling features, timesheet approvals, and leave management.

The Free plan can suit a tightly bounded solo workflow
At $0, Free includes unlimited tasks, time tracking, and invoices, which makes it a way to assess whether Paymo’s workflow fits. Its one-client and two-project caps make it a limited ongoing option for anyone managing several active client engagements.
Paymo’s drawbacks and cautions
Team use changes the price equation
Free and Solo support one user only. A growing studio or agency must move to Plus or Pro for multiple seats, and the listed paid rates are per user per month. Calculate the cost using the regular rate shown after any promotion rather than assuming the introductory price will continue.
Rank #4

Advanced planning is reserved for Pro
Teams that rely on task dependencies, portfolio-level Gantt charts, workload scheduling, or timesheet approvals need to look at Pro, not assume those controls are included in every paid tier. This can make Pro a necessary rather than optional upgrade for more structured project operations.

Mobile workflow deserves a real-world check
A 2026 review by The Digital Project Manager describes Paymo’s mobile functionality as less robust. User-review snippets on G2 also surface mobile limitations and integration concerns. These are reviewer reports, not evidence that every user will encounter the same problems. If staff need to manage projects primarily from phones, test the specific mobile tasks and integrations your team depends on before committing.

Which Paymo plan should you choose?
- Choose Free if you are evaluating Paymo or have one user, one client, and no more than two projects in scope.
- Consider Solo if you are a single user who needs more room than Free allows—up to three clients and five projects—and the listed calendar, Kanban, and guest-access features are enough.
- Consider Plus if your team needs multiple users and you value reports, project profitability, proofing, recurring invoices, estimates or expenses, integrations, or API access.
- Consider Pro if your work requires Gantt planning, dependencies, workload and scheduling tools, timesheet approvals, or leave management.
Before subscribing, map your requirements against the plan rather than choosing by headline price. Check the number of seats, clients, and projects you need; the views and planning depth required; whether time reports or approvals matter; whether you need estimates, expenses, invoices, or profitability tools; and the integrations and mobile workflows your team actually uses. Then compare the total cost at the current price after any temporary promotion ends.
Who should use Paymo?
Paymo merits consideration for freelancers and small client-service teams that want project work, billable-time capture, and invoicing connected. It is a more obvious fit when a one-person plan is sufficient or when a team is prepared to pay for Plus or Pro to gain the user capacity and feature set it needs.
It may be a weaker fit for teams whose work depends heavily on a richer mobile project-management experience, based on the surfaced reviewer feedback, or for buyers who need only a narrow project or task feature and do not need Paymo’s broader time-and-billing bundle. Those are fit judgments, not outcomes from a controlled comparison.
Verdict: Is Paymo worth it?
Paymo’s strongest case is its combination of project and task management, time tracking, and client billing in a single service. Its value depends on whether that combined workflow is useful enough to justify the relevant plan: Free and Solo are constrained to one user, while Plus and Pro have per-user pricing and distinct feature thresholds. Freelancers should weigh Free’s tight client and project limits against Solo’s roomier caps; teams should verify that Plus or Pro includes the planning and approval tools they need. Reviewers have raised mobile-workflow concerns, so phone-dependent teams should validate that part of the product before adopting it.
This verdict is based on Paymo’s published feature and pricing information and attributed user-review feedback, not hands-on testing or a competitor benchmark.
