The Passion layered armor in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne was tied to the 2020 Sizzling Spice Fest. The guides from that period describe one route: own Iceborne, collect the festival’s regular tickets to craft the Passion Alpha+ armor, then earn VIP Sizzling Spice Tickets, five of which craft the layered version. The sources available for this article describe that historical route and do not confirm whether the event or its VIP ticket route can be completed today.
What the layered Passion armor is
Passion layered armor is an appearance-only layered version of the Passion Alpha+ festival armor. It is purely cosmetic: it changes how your hunter looks and is not a separate piece of gear with its own stats. Both versions belong to the Sizzling Spice Fest, the seasonal event in Iceborne that the 2020 guides cover.

Two ticket types, two different jobs
The route depends on telling the two Sizzling Spice Ticket types apart. Mixing them up is the most common reason players end up short.
| Ticket | Used for | Quantity needed | Where the detail comes from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Sizzling Spice Ticket | Crafting the Passion Alpha+ festival armor | Not stated in the sources reviewed | Game8, “Sizzling Spice Ticket – Where to Find and How to Use” |
| VIP Sizzling Spice Ticket | Crafting the layered Passion armor | 5 for the layered set | Hold To Reset, “Everything in the Seliana Sizzling Spice Fest” (2020) |
The historical unlock steps
The following sequence combines the guides’ account with a player-reported community answer. Treat each step as a description of what worked during the 2020 event, not as a guaranteed process.
#1 Best Overall
- Contains both Monster Hunter: World and the Iceborne expansion
- Explore sprawling locales teeming with undiscovered creatures and thriving ecosystems
- Battle fearsome monsters not only to craft new weapons & armor, but also to drive the story forward and uncover the mysteries of the New World and Hoarfrost Reach
- Extensive single-player campaign that also allows drop-in multiplayer; use the SOS Flare to summon other hunters for an assist!
- Use monster materials, as well as items found growing in the wild, to craft new items and gear
- Own Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Game8 states the expansion is required for the Sizzling Spice Tickets involved in this route.
- Collect regular Sizzling Spice Tickets. A 2020 community answer describes completing the limited bounties that award them.
- Craft Passion Alpha+. Spend regular tickets on the festival armor, which is the base for the layered version.
- Wear the Passion set on VIP-ticket runs. The community answer describes a Master Rank quest or expedition while wearing it; see the next section for what the guides say this does.
- Collect five VIP Sizzling Spice Tickets. Hold To Reset’s 2020 guide reports that the layered Passion set requires five VIP tickets.
- Craft the layered Passion armor. With five VIP tickets in hand, the layered version is the final craft in the chain.
Does wearing Passion armor help you get VIP tickets?
Hold To Reset’s guide on VIP tickets says that wearing the Passion set increases the chance of receiving VIP tickets from quest rewards. The same guide and the 2020 community post do not give a drop-rate figure, so there is no published number for how much the effect improves your odds. The community answer’s Master Rank quest or expedition step is player-reported guidance and has not been independently verified.
Iceborne is a prerequisite, not a reward
Game8’s guide lists Iceborne as required for the ticket route. Owning the expansion makes the route possible, but it does not award tickets or the armor itself. Players who do not have Iceborne cannot follow these steps.
Rank #2
- Monster Hunter World Iceborne Master Edition includes the original Monster Hunter World
- Massive Volume of Content - Iceborne builds on every aspect of World with a wealth of new challenges and surprises
- New Story Introduces Hoarfrost Reach Locale - Picking up the plot from World, hunters will travel to a snow-covered terrain which progressively expands with the story, eventually becoming the largest region in World so far
- New and Returning Monsters - The new locale is home to brand new frigid climate foes as well as returning fan favorites joining the Monster Hunter: World lineup. Leading the pack is the new flagship monster Velkhana, an elder dragon with powerful ice attacks that is a pervasive threat in the new story
- Master Rank difficulty option - A brand-new quest tier above High Rank that makes new and existing monsters more ferocious than ever
Can you unlock it today?
The guides describe the 2020 event period and do not confirm whether the Sizzling Spice Fest, or its VIP ticket route, is available now. Check Capcom’s official Monster Hunter announcements for current event schedules, and look for Sizzling Spice event notices in Iceborne after you launch the game. If no such event is running, the route described above is not available at that time, and the 2020 guides cannot tell you when it might return.
