Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction took place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. It offered 597.2 MHz across six bands—not a full 600 MHz—and Jazz, Ufone and Zong acquired 480 MHz in the allocation stage. A later report said 60 MHz in the 3500 MHz band remained unsold.
What happened in Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction?
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) held the NGMS/5G spectrum auction on March 10, 2026. Three qualified operators participated: Jazz, Ufone and Zong. The allocation stage concluded after three rounds, determining how much spectrum each operator acquired. The subsequent assignment stage determined the precise frequency positions within the bands.
The offer covered six bands: 700, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2600 and 3500 MHz. The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication was told on February 26 that each participating bidder would have to acquire at least 100 MHz. All three reported allocation totals exceeded that minimum.

How much spectrum was offered and sold?
The roughly 600 MHz in the original headline is a rounded reference to the 597.2 MHz offered, not the amount that operators bought. The allocation-stage report recorded 480 MHz sold. The assignment-stage report later said 60 MHz in the 3500 MHz band remained unsold.

| Measure | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Spectrum offered across six bands | 597.2 MHz, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), March 9, 2026 |
| Spectrum sold at allocation stage | 480 MHz, according to APP, March 10, 2026 |
| Unsold spectrum reported after assignment | 60 MHz in the 3500 MHz band, according to APP, March 13, 2026 |
The offered and sold figures describe different stages and should not be treated as interchangeable. The available reports establish the total acquired and the unsold amount in the 3500 MHz band; they do not provide a complete band-by-band breakdown of all remaining offered spectrum.
Which operators acquired spectrum?
APP reported these allocation-stage totals:
| Operator | Spectrum acquired |
|---|---|
| Jazz | 190 MHz |
| Ufone | 180 MHz |
| Zong | 110 MHz |
The three allocations add up to the reported 480 MHz sold. These totals describe how much spectrum each operator acquired; the assignment stage subsequently established their precise frequency positions.

How much money did the auction raise?
Before bidding, the government expected revenue of more than $634 million, conditional on competition and final prices. That was a forecast, not the final reported result. After the assignment stage, APP reported proceeds of $509.6 million, approximately Rs. 142.6 billion.

Radio Pakistan reported that the three operators had each paid $15 million in pre-bid earnest money, for $45 million in total. That deposit figure is separate from the later reported proceeds and should not be added to them as a separate auction outcome.

Does the auction mean 5G is available to consumers?
No. The auction allocated spectrum rights to operators; it does not by itself establish that a customer can connect to a 5G network in a particular city or on a particular device. Deployment, service launch and geographic coverage are separate steps.
In contemporaneous coverage, APP said commercial services were expected later in 2026. Radio Pakistan reported on March 12 that a pilot was planned and described full services in federal and provincial capitals as a prospective six-to-eight-month horizon. Those were expectations stated at the time, not confirmation that services launched on schedule. The reports cited here do not establish current coverage, speeds or subscriber experience.
