Reports published on October 2 and 3, 2026, say police registered an FIR against Pahalgam MLA Altaf Kaloo and National Conference spokesperson Umesh Bhat after a complaint by Kaloo’s personal security officer (PSO), Shabir Ahmad. The reported case is at Sadar Anantnag police station in Anantnag district—not Srinagar city. The complaint alleges an assault; Kaloo denies it and gives a different account. An FIR is not proof of guilt.
What is the FIR about?
Hindustan Times and a PTI report carried by Kashmir Observer say Ahmad complained that he was assaulted while on official duty and sustained injuries. Officials cited in the reports said the complaint led to the FIR against Kaloo and Bhat. These are allegations described in reporting, not findings that an assault occurred.
The reports identify the provisions as Sections 121 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR itself and a police statement were not available in the cited coverage, so the section numbers and their application here are reported rather than independently verified.

Kaloo denies the allegation. “All these allegations are baseless,” he told Hindustan Times on October 3. He said he had reported the PSO’s alleged absence from duty to the SSP Security and alleged that the PSO grabbed him by the neck. The New Indian Express also reported that Kaloo said he would file a counter-FIR. That is his account; the cited reports do not establish that a counter-FIR was filed.

Where was the case registered?
The reporting places the FIR at Sadar Anantnag police station, in Anantnag district. Although the original headline uses a Srinagar dateline, the reports do not establish that the alleged incident took place in Srinagar city. They identify Kaloo as the Pahalgam MLA.
