Owen Coyne’s mother, Angela Paradise, said he died after a sudden brain hemorrhage. The Boston Globe reported that she said the hemorrhage was not caused by impact. Those details come from his mother’s account; the reporting reviewed does not include an independent medical or official determination of cause of death.
What did Owen Coyne’s family say about his death?
In a tribute published by Marblehead Current on October 2, 2026, Paradise wrote that Owen “passed away after a sudden brain hemorrhage.” The Boston Globe reported the same day that Paradise told the Current the hemorrhage was not caused by impact. Both details should be understood as statements attributed to his mother, not as independently confirmed medical findings.
An earlier WCVB report on October 2 said a cause was not immediately available at the time. That account preceded the later family disclosure and does not necessarily conflict with it.
Who was Owen Coyne?
Owen was a senior at Marblehead High School and a football co-captain. His mother’s tribute described him as a member of the varsity baseball and track teams, a sailing instructor for the town, and an avid boater. She said he planned to attend Williams College the following fall to pursue academics and football.

The Marblehead Independent reported that he was one of three football captains. In a preseason account, Coyne described captaincy as “being a leader on and off the field,” including encouraging teammates who were struggling to stay committed.
What have his family, coaches, and school community said?
In a statement shared by Marblehead Public Schools Superintendent John Robidoux, Owen’s parents and siblings described the loss of “a child, a brother, a captain, a teammate, a friend, and a young man who is so deeply loved by so many.” They said he brought joy and light to people around him, thanked the community for its support, and asked people to show compassion to those who loved him, especially friends and classmates.

What support did Marblehead schools announce?
The superintendent’s announcement said counseling support would be available to students and staff during the school day. Local reporting also said the scheduled football game against Danvers was canceled. The Marblehead Independent reported that counselors were available at the high school during specified hours on October 2–4, 2026, with further district support planned; those hours described a short-term response at that time, not ongoing availability.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why do reports give different ages?
The sources reviewed do not reconcile two age references: Paradise’s tribute says Owen lived “17 years,” while a Marblehead Current article about coaches’ tributes calls him 18. Without confirmation from an authoritative source, his exact age should not be stated as settled.
