Outcast Tales is coming to Steam in 2026, and its developer says the full game will be free with no store, no real-money currency and no season pass. A free demo is playable now. The Steam listing checked on October 9, 2026 shows only the year, so the October 26 date that one outlet reports should be treated as reported rather than officially confirmed.
When the full game arrives
The official Steam listing for Outcast Tales (store.steampowered.com/app/2551970/) gives the release year as 2026 and no day. That is the only date the store page itself shows. Kicks & Grips published a report on October 8, 2026 headlined around an October 26 release on Steam, which would fall inside the current month. The store page and the outlet’s report are not the same kind of source, so the two should be read separately.

To check the date yourself, follow these steps:
- Open the Steam store page at store.steampowered.com/app/2551970/.
- Find the release date line in the game details.
- If it shows only “2026,” the exact day has not been published there yet. If it shows a full date, that date supersedes any secondary report.
What “free” means here
Hardlane Studio announced the no-cost plan on September 14, 2026 in a Steam news post. The developer wrote: “No store. No currency you buy with real money. No Season 12 anything. Just the whole game, from day one.” That sentence is the developer’s own description of the model, not an independent review of it.
The game’s publisher is Inner Pocket, which the developer announced in August 2026. The free-release announcement says Inner Pocket supports the decision. Hardlane Studio is the developer.

The developer also lists English and Russian as the initial release languages. Other languages are not mentioned in the sources checked, so do not assume them at launch.
Playing the demo now
The Outcast Tales demo (store.steampowered.com/app/5111950/Outcast_Tales_Demo/) released on September 10, 2026. According to the developer’s September announcement, it is a much larger version than the earlier prologue. The developer says it roughly doubles playtime, adds seven bosses and four times the encounters, includes a new ending, and introduces secret abilities tied to character classes. The Alchemist class is held back for the full release.

The developer says demo saves can be carried into the main game. Twitch integration, which lets viewers influence events and choices, is described as included and working. These are the developer’s statements. The save carryover has not been tested independently for this article, so keep a backup of anything you value until the full release confirms it works.

What kind of game it is
Hardlane Studio describes Outcast Tales as a funny, story-driven roguelite with hard tactical battles, in which characters sometimes act on their own. The Steam page presents it as a squad-based RPG built around tactical fights, decisions, relationships and branching situations.

The sources checked describe one full-game edition. They do not mention paid tiers, deluxe versions or a separate storefront release, so there is no edition comparison to make.
