With xemu, original Xbox game compatibility is title-specific: check the compatibility tracker for the game and the xemu version tested, then verify your system files and game image if it fails. Ordinary saves are stored on the virtual hard drive’s E partition; save-state snapshots are stored in the hard-drive image. xemu requires system files it does not distribute, and its guidance on acquiring files is not a complete legal answer for every jurisdiction.
Does a particular original Xbox game work in xemu?
Look up the game in xemu’s compatibility tracker. Check both its reported status and the xemu version cited on the game’s page. If a title marked playable fails on your setup, the FAQ recommends trying the cited version; a playable report is not a guarantee that it will work on every computer or configuration.

Common causes of a failure include system issues, a corrupted cache, a faulty disc dump, or a compatibility regression. Check the game image and required system files as well as the reported version. The project does not provide a universal compatibility percentage or performance benchmark, so a status for one title is more useful than a blanket claim about the library.
Where does xemu store game saves and save states?
Ordinary game saves
Regular saves are stored on the E partition of xemu’s virtual hard drive. The FAQ says the partition’s contents can be accessed over FTP.
#1 Best Overall
Save-state snapshots
Snapshots are stored on the hard-drive image and are not easily extractable. Back up the hard-drive image before making changes to it.
EEPROM and save compatibility
Some saves are tied to the console that created them. xemu’s FAQ suggests trying that console’s EEPROM if a save does not work. It also warns that saves may be tied to the HDD key when discussing EEPROM changes, so back up relevant files before changing EEPROM settings.

What files and game formats does xemu need?
System files
xemu’s required-files documentation identifies three system components: an MCPX boot ROM image, a compatible BIOS image, and a hard-disk image. Some required items are copyrighted and are not distributed with xemu. The documentation also notes that an unmodified retail BIOS cannot boot games because certain key DRM functions are not implemented.

xemu expects games in XISO form. Its FAQ says redump-style ISO images are not supported directly, although they can be converted, and compressed CHD images are not supported. xemu also does not launch a game’s default.xbe directly. See the project’s disc-image documentation for its format guidance.

- Designed to push gaming to the absolute limit, the Xbox console delivers incredible graphics and cinematic sound
What does xemu say about getting files legally?
xemu’s disc-image documentation states: “The only legal way to acquire these files is to dump them from your real, physical media.” Its required-files page says some items cannot be distributed because doing so would violate copyright laws, and its About page says piracy is not tolerated. These are the project’s stated positions, not a jurisdiction-specific legal opinion.
Rules for making backups, circumventing copy protection, and using copied files vary by location and circumstances. The cited project guidance does not establish what is lawful in every jurisdiction. Consult applicable local law or a qualified legal professional for advice about your situation.

- Made of 4N oxygen-free copper (OFC) imported terminals, plastic and other materials, the wire body is soft, flexible, environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and has super wear resistance
- AV cable is designed according to the connection requirements of the XBOX series host and TV and audio equipment, which can effectively solve the audio and video transmission problems of the XBOX host
- Yellow is used for video, red and white are used for left and right stereo audio input.
- AC Power Cord has many uses. It is suitable for most devices that require a 2-pin AC power cord, such as PS2 game consoles, and Samsung LED LCD TV smart displays, Xbox One S X, PS4 PlayStation 4 consoles, PS3, printers, scanners, game consoles, entertainment systems, etc.
- Includes every power cord needed for the Xbox console to work.
What computer and controller can you use?
Computer requirements
xemu lists Windows, macOS, and Linux support and requires an OpenGL 4.0-compatible GPU. Performance varies with hardware and may change as the emulator evolves; the project does not promise a particular frame rate or smooth operation for every game.

Controllers
An original Xbox controller can connect to a PC using a USB adapter. xemu does not endorse a particular adapter model in the cited guide. If your operating system recognizes a controller but xemu does not map it, the controller guide explains how to load an external SDL controller mapping database.
