Manyfold can make a large 3D-print library easier to browse and maintain with tags, collections, metadata, previews, and links between related models. But its current feature roadmap lists built-in version control as planned, not available. Use Manyfold to organize and find models; keep deliberate historical copies separately until your deployed version provides a revision-history feature you have verified.
What Manyfold can do for a model library
Manyfold is open-source, self-hosted software for organizing and sharing collections of 3D models, especially files used for 3D printing. Its available features include interactive previews, tags, creator information, lists and collections, folder management, and connections between remixes or files in different formats. You can also add metadata such as a model’s original source and notes. See the Manyfold project repository and its official feature list.
Those tools address common library problems: remembering what a file is, finding it again, keeping related designs together, and seeing how one model relates to another. They do not, by themselves, establish that earlier file contents are saved as historical revisions.

- Ingest the files. Manyfold’s upload guide says you can upload compressed archives or individual supported 3D files and create models from them. Check the guide for current supported formats and instructions: Uploading Content.
- Add information that answers future questions. Use tags and available metadata to record useful distinctions, such as the model’s purpose, original source, or notes about its status. Consistent terms are easier to search and filter than one-off labels.
- Group models by how you use them. Use collections or lists for meaningful sets—for example, a project or a set of parts to print together. Folder management can help keep the files on disk organized as well.
- Connect related designs and files. Where appropriate, link a remix to its source model or connect different-format files belonging to the same design. That relationship is more informative than treating every file as an unrelated item.
- Check previews and metadata as you browse. Previews can help identify a model visually, while metadata and issue identification can expose missing information or file-related problems.
Manyfold’s homepage describes browsing, categorizing, sharing, metadata, and automatic file reorganization based on tags or other metadata. The exact feature set can change between releases; consult the official news and release notes and the documentation for the version you run before relying on a particular behavior.

Keep revision history separate from library organization
Manyfold’s official feature page places “Version control” in its Later roadmap category, with a Q4 2026 estimate for storing model changes over time. The page cautions that roadmap dates are estimates and may change. That is a plan, not confirmation that historical revisions are available in a particular installation. Check the feature page and your deployed version before treating Manyfold as revision-history storage.
Until you have verified a revision feature in your instance, preserve earlier file contents outside the assumption that uploading again will create a revision. The upload documentation describes adding archives or supported files and creating models; it does not say that a new upload records a historical version of an existing model. A cautious workflow is to retain the original and each meaningful revision as separate, clearly labeled files or copies, then use Manyfold’s tags, notes, collections, and relationships to make their purpose and connection understandable. This is a workflow recommendation, not a claim that Manyfold automatically versions those files.

Choose the right tool for each problem
- Finding a model: use tags, creator details, collections, metadata, and previews.
- Understanding how files relate: use model relationships for remixes and alternate formats where applicable.
- Preserving what changed over time: verify that your installed Manyfold version actually provides historical version control; otherwise retain revision copies separately.
- Sharing a collection: Manyfold lists multiuser access and permissions, federation, and social features, but check current documentation for your version and configuration.
Manyfold also lists a REST API, imports from external model sites, direct-printing integrations, and plugins among its available features. These may matter to a broader workflow, but they are distinct from preserving a model’s revision history. Feature availability and behavior can evolve; use the official features and roadmap as the current reference.
