There is no verified official “Part 1” grouping for Mirror Isles. Before using any exact route, match your board’s islands, mirror locations, starting square, movable objects and exit. The safest way to solve the first mirror puzzles is to predict where your reflection will land, then work backward from that destination. The complete route near the end applies only to one board with a specific four-island layout; it is clearly marked as a spoiler.
What “Mirror Isles Part 1” refers to
Order of the Sinking Star is a puzzle adventure built around more than 1,000 handcrafted puzzles across four worlds, according to the publisher’s Steam listing (accessed October 13, 2026). Mirror Isles, designed by Alan Hazelden, is one of the game’s foundations: you cross separated islands by exchanging positions with reflections.
Community guides use names such as “Mirror Isles 1,” “the first mirror puzzle” and “Part 1,” but the available material does not establish an official retail level group called Part 1. A demo walkthrough updated October 2, 2026 identifies 23 original Mirror Isles levels and four additional puzzles in the launch version, for 27 puzzles in that region. A separate directory updated October 10, 2026 lists 27 layouts and routes, while warning that some labels are not verified against retail names and that some routes were not replayed in the released game.

That uncertainty matters. A numbered solution can be correct for a different layout, a demo board or a community naming scheme. Use the hints below in order, and only open the route section after confirming the landmarks listed there.

How the mirror swap works
Read the two beams
Each mirror projects two perpendicular beams. When your character enters one beam, imagine a line from the mirror through your position. The reflection appears on the other beam at the same distance from the mirror. Activating the mirror exchanges your position with that reflected position.
For example, if you stand three squares from the mirror on its horizontal beam, the reflected landing square is three squares away on the perpendicular beam. The exchange is not a teleport to an arbitrary island: both your current distance and the mirror’s orientation determine the destination.
Choose the landing square before activating
The useful move is often the square you choose before pressing the mirror. Walk along the beam and watch the projected destination. A small change in your distance can move the reflection to a different tile, island or side of an island. Stop on a square whose reflection is both reachable and useful; then activate the mirror.

A swap cannot complete if the reflected landing square is blocked or otherwise unavailable. Check the destination, not just the square beneath your character. If the exchange fails, move one square at a time and observe where the reflection goes instead of repeatedly activating the mirror.

Spoiler-free hint ladder
Take one hint at a time. Each level reveals more of the method without giving a complete sequence.
Hint 1: read the reflection
Before activating a mirror, identify the exact square where your reflection lands. The correct move may be to walk farther along the beam, not to use the mirror immediately.
Hint 2: measure equal distances
Count squares from the mirror along your current beam. Count the same number of squares along the other beam. That equal-distance square is the reflected position.

Hint 3: inspect the board geometry
If the reflected square is blocked, unreachable or on the wrong side of an island, look for a different standing square. If no standing square produces a useful destination, a movable mirror or object probably needs to be repositioned first.

Hint 4: use objects as infrastructure
A boulder or crystal sunk into water becomes a walkable tile. Such an object can create a bridge across a gap or give you a new square from which to reflect. Bushes and other movable objects can also participate in exchanges, so do not assume the mechanic applies only to the player.
Hint 5: change the mirror, not just the player
Pushable mirrors change the length and direction of the beams. Moving one can make an otherwise unreachable island line up with a valid reflected square. Recalculate the geometry after every push; the old landing square is no longer reliable.
Match your board before following a solution
Use this checklist whenever a guide’s “level 1” does not look familiar:

- Mirror count and placement: record every mirror, its orientation and whether it can be pushed.
- Starting square: compare the character’s exact position, not merely the island name.
- Movable objects: check for boulders, crystals, bushes, Traders and water gaps.
- Exit: identify the exit’s color and the island on which it sits.
If even one of these differs, treat the route as a hint rather than a sequence to copy. The community directory itself says its labels are not all verified against retail level names, and some listed routes may not have been replayed in the launch build.

Using water, boulders and crystals
Make a bridge
When a boulder or crystal is sunk into water, the resulting tile becomes walkable. This can close a one-tile or multi-tile gap between land sections. Push the object into the water only after checking where you still need to stand for a mirror swap; a bridge can solve one problem while removing a reflection square.
Recalculate after every object move
Objects can be exchanged by the mirror mechanic as well as the player. If a boulder, crystal or bush is on a beam, its reflected destination follows the same equal-distance rule. A moved object may clear a blocked landing tile, open a route or occupy the square you intended to use.
When a mirror is the movable object
A pushed mirror changes both beam reach and swap distance. After moving it, walk onto a beam and count from the mirror again. Do not rely on the previous orientation or on a route recorded before the push.
Later mechanics: Traders and gold plates
Only use this section if your board visibly contains Traders and two facing mirrors. A community walkthrough reports that using a mirror while a Trader is between two facing mirrors can split the Trader into two copies that move together. Swapping one copy onto the other merges them again. Gold-plate challenges require a Trader on each plate.

This behavior is conditional and may belong to later Mirror Isles puzzles. It is not a requirement for every board called “Part 1,” so do not search for Traders or paired mirrors if your layout does not show them.

The mirror does nothing
- Check whether you are actually standing on one of the mirror’s beams.
- Look at the reflected square for a wall, water, object or island edge that blocks the exchange.
- Walk one square along the beam and inspect the new destination.
You reach the wrong island
- Undo the last move rather than continuing from an unintended position.
- Count the distance from the mirror again; an off-by-one square changes the destination.
- Confirm that the guide’s island layout and mirror orientation match your board.
The route worked in a video but not in your game
The video may show a demo board, a different retail arrangement or a community label that does not correspond to your level name. Compare the five board features in the checklist above. If the layout matches but the destination is blocked, inspect whether an object was moved earlier; undo until the reflection is visible and recalculate from that state.
Spoiler route for one specific four-island board
Open this only if your board matches all of these landmarks: you start on the middle-right island; there is one mirror to the northeast; the island to the northwest is empty; and the yellow exit is on the large southern island. A third-party article dated October 7, 2026 reports the following two-swap solution for that layout. It does not establish a complete solution for every puzzle called Part 1.
- From the starting position, walk right until your reflection reaches the northwest island.
- Activate the mirror to swap onto the northwest island.
- Walk to the west edge of that island. Before activating the mirror, verify that the reflected square is on the southern island.
- Activate the mirror a second time to swap to the southern island.
- Cross the southern island to the yellow exit.
If your starting island, mirror direction, empty island or exit differs, stop here and return to the hint ladder. The same principle may solve your board, but these exact walking instructions are not established for another layout.
A reliable solving routine for every Mirror Isles board
- Survey the entire reachable area before moving anything.
- Mark each mirror’s two beams and identify possible standing squares.
- For each standing square, count the equal-distance reflected square.
- Test the least disruptive swap first; avoid pushing objects until you know why.
- Use water objects as bridges only after checking the mirror squares they may occupy.
- After a push or swap, redo the beam and distance calculation.
- When an exit becomes reachable, confirm that no earlier object or Trader is still required on a plate.
The game’s official description says each puzzle builds on the last and introduces mechanics that reward curiosity and persistence. In practice, that means treating every failed swap as information: the landing square tells you which distance, obstacle or board assumption needs to change.
