Yes, Order of the Sinking Star is Steam Deck Verified. The game is single-player, not a co-op or online multiplayer title according to its current official store listings. The Steam version supports Steam Cloud, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version supports Nintendo Save Data Cloud with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Those are separate platform services: no reviewed official source confirms that a save can move between Steam, Switch 2, and PlayStation 5.

The details below reflect the official listings and announcements checked on October 13, 2026. Store metadata can change.

Is Order of the Sinking Star Steam Deck compatible?

Yes. On September 15, 2026, the developer announced that Order of the Sinking Star had received Steam Deck Verified status. The announcement specifically describes optimized controls and an interface intended for handheld play. Steam also identifies Steam Deck as a release platform on the game’s store page.

What “Verified” tells you

Verified status is the strongest compatibility label in Steam’s Deck system. For this game, the developer’s announcement is evidence that the title meets that status and that handheld controls and UI were addressed. It is not a promise of a particular frame rate, battery life, loading time, or performance on every Deck model. No hands-on performance test is established by the official material cited here, so you should not treat the label as a benchmark.

What you need to play on Deck

  • A Steam account that owns the Steam edition.
  • The game installed through the Steam client on the Deck.
  • Enough local storage for the installation and its save data.
  • An internet connection when downloading, updating, or synchronizing cloud data; the game’s store listing does not define an offline-save policy.

Steam Deck is optional hardware, not a requirement. You can use the same Steam edition on a compatible desktop or laptop and, where Steam Cloud synchronization applies, manage the Steam saves within that Steam ecosystem. The listing does not promise that those saves can be imported into a console edition.

Does Order of the Sinking Star have multiplayer or co-op?

No multiplayer mode is advertised in the official listings reviewed. Steam marks the game as Single-player, and Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing specifies one player on a single system. There is no official listing evidence of local co-op, online co-op, competitive multiplayer, or an online matchmaking mode.

What that means for the puzzle design

The game is built around an individual player’s progress through more than 1,000 hand-crafted puzzles and four worlds. Steam’s description says you can set your own pace, revisit worlds, and return to challenges as you see fit. If you are choosing it for two-person play, treat it as a solo game unless a later developer announcement changes the published feature list.

What save options does the Steam version have?

The Steam store listing includes Steam Cloud. That confirms a cloud-save feature for the Steam version, but the listing does not describe a manual save export or import process. It also does not state that Steam Cloud synchronizes with Nintendo Save Data Cloud or with a PlayStation save.

Checking Steam Cloud before you play

  1. Open your Steam Library and select Order of the Sinking Star.
  2. Open the game’s Properties window and select General.
  3. Leave the Steam Cloud option enabled if it is shown. Steam’s labels can change between client versions.
  4. After playing, exit normally and wait for Steam to finish any synchronization shown by the client before shutting down or switching devices.

On a second Steam installation, sign in to the same Steam account, install the game, and allow the client to complete its cloud check before launching. If Steam presents a synchronization conflict, compare the dates and sizes it displays and keep the copy that contains the progress you intend to use. Do not delete local files while troubleshooting unless you have deliberately preserved the save you want.

What Steam Cloud does not establish

  • It does not document a portable file format that you can upload to Switch 2 or PS5.
  • It does not prove that every save state, configuration file, or user-created setting is synchronized; the store page only identifies Steam Cloud support.
  • It does not guarantee that a Steam Deck save will appear in a console edition.

For a Deck owner, Steam Cloud is best understood as a Steam-platform save option. Keep the same Steam account on your other Steam devices and allow synchronization to finish, but do not buy a Switch 2 copy expecting automatic cross-progression.

What save options does the Nintendo Switch 2 version have?

Nintendo’s US listing identifies Save Data Cloud for the Switch 2 edition and states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required. Nintendo’s general Switch Online support FAQ explains that the service backs up compatible games’ save data and lets members access that data with their Nintendo Account on compatible consoles.

Setting up a Switch 2 cloud backup

  1. Sign in to the Nintendo Account used to play the game.
  2. Make sure that account has an active Nintendo Switch Online membership; Nintendo’s game listing makes the membership requirement explicit.
  3. From the HOME Menu, open System Settings, then Data Management, and choose Save Data Cloud.
  4. Select the playing user and Order of the Sinking Star, then use the backup or download option shown for that title. Menu wording can vary with system software.
  5. Allow the upload or download to complete before changing consoles or removing the game.

The availability of the Save Data Cloud entry confirms the Nintendo service option for this listing. It is not evidence that Nintendo’s cloud can read a Steam save. The Nintendo support page also says that local save-data backups are not currently supported on Switch 2 or Switch. That general policy means you should not assume there is a removable local backup you can copy to another platform.

Membership and account cautions

  • The membership requirement applies to the Nintendo cloud-backup service; it is separate from owning the game.
  • Cloud data is associated with the Nintendo Account and user profile that played the game. Check the profile before restoring a save.
  • A cloud backup is a recovery mechanism for compatible Nintendo consoles, not a universal cross-platform save service.

Can you transfer a save between Steam Deck and Switch 2?

That is unconfirmed. Steam documents Steam Cloud for the Steam edition, and Nintendo documents Save Data Cloud for Switch 2, but none of the reviewed official sources says that the two services exchange save data. There is no published manual export/import workflow in the sources reviewed either.

What to do before changing platforms

  1. Finish a session on the original platform and let its cloud service complete.
  2. Keep the original device and its local save intact until the new platform is confirmed to contain the progress you need.
  3. Do not assume that signing in with the same email address, Nintendo Account, or game account will create cross-progression; the official listings do not describe a shared game account system.
  4. Ask the developer for title-specific confirmation before purchasing a second edition solely to continue an existing save.

The safest current expectation is separate progression: Steam saves remain within the Steam ecosystem, and Switch 2 saves remain within Nintendo’s compatible-console cloud system unless Thekla, Inc. later announces a supported transfer method.

What about PlayStation 5 saves?

The official game FAQ lists PlayStation 5 among the game’s platforms. However, the reviewed official material does not establish how PS5 saves are stored, whether a PlayStation cloud feature is enabled for this title, or whether PS5 progress can synchronize with Steam or Switch 2. Do not promise cross-progression on the basis of the platform list alone.

  • Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
  • Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
  • Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
  • Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
  • The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

For a definitive answer about a PS5-to-PC or PS5-to-Switch transfer, contact the developer or publisher through the Order of the Sinking Star support category and ask specifically about the editions, account requirement, and direction of transfer. A generic platform cloud service and a developer-built cross-save system are different features.

Steam Deck versus Switch 2 for a portable playthrough

Decision point Steam Deck Switch 2
Official handheld indication Developer-announced Steam Deck Verified status, including optimized controls and UI. Nintendo lists Switch 2 handheld play.
Player count Single-player One player on one system
Cloud service named by the listing Steam Cloud Save Data Cloud
Subscription requirement stated by the listing None stated for Steam Cloud in the game listing. Nintendo Switch Online membership required.
Cross-save with the other platform Not confirmed Not confirmed

Choose based on the ecosystem you already use rather than an assumed shared save. Steam Deck is the clearest choice if your existing progress is on Steam. Switch 2 is the portable-console option with Nintendo’s Save Data Cloud, provided you have the required membership. Neither listing currently establishes a way to carry progress from one to the other.

Save and compatibility troubleshooting

The game is not showing as synchronized on Steam

  • Confirm that you are signed into the Steam account that owns the game.
  • Open the game’s Properties and check the General page for the Steam Cloud setting.
  • Reconnect to the internet, launch the game once, exit normally, and wait for Steam’s synchronization indicator.
  • If a conflict appears, preserve the device containing the newest intended progress before selecting a version.

The store listing does not provide a separate export tool, so avoid treating file copying as an officially supported transfer method.

Switch 2 cloud data is unavailable

  • Verify the playing user is linked to the Nintendo Account with the active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • Open System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud and check whether the title appears for that user.
  • Connect the console to the internet and allow the backup operation to finish.
  • Remember that Nintendo says local save-data backups are not currently supported on Switch 2 or Switch, so the cloud service is not interchangeable with a removable local copy.

You bought a second platform version

Do not overwrite or delete the original save while looking for a transfer option. The official listings do not confirm cross-platform synchronization, and the reviewed materials do not describe an export/import procedure. Keep playing on the original platform or contact support for a title-specific answer.

Bottom line for prospective players

Order of the Sinking Star is a solo puzzle adventure with Steam Deck Verified support and more than 1,000 hand-crafted puzzles. Steam offers Steam Cloud, and Switch 2 offers Nintendo Save Data Cloud for members of Nintendo Switch Online. Those features solve recovery and continuity within their respective platform ecosystems; they do not currently establish cross-platform saves. Multiplayer and co-op are not listed, so plan for a one-player experience.
