Oracle, Broadcom and SpaceX are each reported to be pursuing separate financing for AI-related hardware or chip development. The reported plans range from more than $50 billion for Broadcom’s custom-chip work with OpenAI to $40 billion for SpaceX to buy Nvidia hardware; Oracle’s reported financing has no disclosed amount in the main account. None of the reviewed reports confirms a completed financing.
What each company is reportedly financing
Data Center Dynamics (DCD), reporting on October 8, 2026 and attributing its account to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), describes three distinct efforts. They are not one joint financing deal.
| Company | Reported amount | Purpose | Named financial counterparties or structure | Status and timing reported |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Broadcom | More than $50 billion, according to DCD’s October 8, 2026 account of the WSJ report. | Support ongoing development of a custom AI chip Broadcom is partnering with OpenAI to develop. | Final counterparties and financing structure are not stated in DCD’s account of the WSJ report. | Potentially several gigawatts of OpenAI chip capacity; a year-end closing target was reported. These are possible terms and a target, not a confirmed closing. |
| Oracle | Not disclosed in DCD’s October 8, 2026 account of the WSJ report. | Finance a large chip purchase and bridge the period between paying for hardware and receiving cloud-computing revenue. | DCD names Apollo Global Management and Goldman Sachs as parties in talks; structure is not stated. | Reported talks; no closing date is stated in DCD’s account. |
| SpaceX | $40 billion, according to DCD’s October 8, 2026 account. | Purchase Nvidia hardware. | Axios reported October 7, 2026 that the proposed package included about $30 billion in investment-grade debt and $10 billion in bank loans, with Apollo leading the process. | DCD’s account of a separate Financial Times report said a 2027 close was expected. The reports do not confirm a closing. |
What the reported numbers do—and do not—show
Broadcom and OpenAI: financing for custom-chip development
The more-than-$50-billion figure is a reported amount Broadcom was seeking to support ongoing development of a custom AI chip in partnership with OpenAI. DCD, citing the WSJ, says the financing could support several gigawatts of OpenAI chip capacity and that a year-end closing target was reported. The account does not establish final terms, the amount ultimately raised, or a completed transaction.

DCD’s account says Oracle was discussing financing with Apollo Global Management and Goldman Sachs for a large chip purchase. The stated purpose is to cover the timing gap between paying for hardware and earning cloud-computing revenue from it. No amount is disclosed there, so a dollar figure should not be inferred.

Investing.com separately summarized a WSJ report as describing hardware for a 1-gigawatt facility. That is a lower-confidence secondary detail, not a definitive Oracle plan: the original WSJ account was not directly reviewed for that figure.
SpaceX: a reported debt-and-loan package for Nvidia hardware
The reported $40 billion SpaceX package has the clearest published financing breakdown: Axios described approximately $30 billion in investment-grade debt and $10 billion in bank loans, with Apollo leading the process. The purpose reported by DCD is to purchase Nvidia hardware. The package’s reported composition does not establish final borrowing terms, purchase quantities, or whether the financing closed.

- Space Saving: Maximum depth: 14.8". Use the wall mount network cabinet to maximize available space for retail locations, classrooms, back offices, network cabinets, and other locations where space is limited.
- Fast Heat Dissipation: The server cabinet is designed with vents to optimize airflow and avoid critical IT equipment overheating. Heat sink holes in the top, bottom, and rear panels are more conducive to heat dissipation.
- Sturdy Construction: Robust welded frame construction for durability and long service life. With 100 lbs wall-mounted load capacity and 200 lbs ground-mounted load capacity, you can place multiple devices in the server rack cabinet as needed.
- High Security: The locked glass door ensures the security of data and equipment. Wall mount rack enclosure server cabinet is ideal for use in public places such as offices, effectively protecting the security of your devices.
- Hassle-free Installation: Fully adjustable square-hole mounting rails of the wall mount server cabinet facilitate device installation. Wiring holes on the top, bottom, and rear panels provide you with easy cable routing.
How to read the status and timing
The accounts describe negotiations, proposed structures, and expected schedules—not confirmed borrowing, purchase orders, or completed financing. For SpaceX, the timing differs by report: DCD relays the WSJ’s reported plan, while its account of the Financial Times says the transaction was expected to close in 2027. Neither report, as described here, confirms that it did.
The available reporting also does not establish borrowing costs, final investor exposure, exact chip models or quantities, or whether revenue from the resulting compute will be sufficient to support the financing. The headline amounts alone cannot answer those questions.

- Wide Application: The server rack wall mount maximizes the use of available space, suitable for retail venues, classrooms, offices, and other places where space is limited.
Separate AI-infrastructure deals and projects
A separate $35 billion initial loan reported by Axios concerns an AI-infrastructure platform involving Apollo, Blackstone and Broadcom for Anthropic. It is not the reported Broadcom–OpenAI custom-chip financing.
SpaceX’s proposed TeraFab is also separate from the reported Nvidia hardware purchase. DCD reported a planned $16.8 billion investment in a semiconductor factory in Grimes County, Texas. In statements DCD attributes to Elon Musk in October 2026, he described discussions with TSMC as “just discussions, but something may come of it” and said SpaceX would build and run the fab, adding that TSMC might sublease part of it. Those remarks concern the fab project; they do not confirm or explain the reported Nvidia financing.
