Opteev announced ViraWarn in November 2022 as a pocket-sized breath analyzer intended to detect COVID-19, influenza and RSV in under 60 seconds. That was a company design claim—not a verified result readers can rely on today. Opteev’s own documents said the device was still in clinical trials, awaiting FDA approval and not available for sale.
What is the ViraWarn breath test?
ViraWarn is a proposed Opteev Technologies product, model GO-100: a battery-operated, pocket-sized electronic device intended to screen a breath sample for COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Opteev described it in a November 28, 2022 announcement as detecting the three viruses “in less than 60 seconds.”
The distinction matters: ViraWarn was announced and described, but the available documentation does not establish that it became an authorized, purchasable product. The speed and virus-detection claims should therefore be understood as Opteev’s stated design goals from 2022, not as independently confirmed performance.

How was ViraWarn supposed to work?
Opteev’s announced workflow was to turn on the device, blow twice into its mouthpiece, then read a positive or negative result from an LED indicator. The company described a proprietary solid-state biosensor and an internal AI processor that analyzes the sensor signal. The product specification sheet also describes a carbon filter for larger particles and a HEPA filter for exhaust air.

Opteev described the unit as reusable with replaceable biosensor cartridges. In its CES 2023 announcement, the company said a cartridge would be replaced after a positive result or after two weeks of daily use. These are descriptions of the announced design; they do not establish current operating instructions for a consumer product.
Is ViraWarn FDA approved or available to buy?
No current FDA authorization number or retail listing is established by the available materials. Opteev’s specification sheet is marked “Information Only – Not Yet Approved For Sale” and states, “Not yet available for sale, waiting for FDA approval.” Its CES announcement likewise said ViraWarn was in ongoing clinical trials, under FDA review and not yet available for sale.

Accordingly, there is no verified source here for where to buy ViraWarn, a release date, or a consumer price. Do not treat the announcement as evidence that the device is currently on sale or cleared for home testing.

No published ViraWarn clinical sensitivity or specificity figures are established in the available sources. Opteev said its FDA submission was based on early data from ongoing clinical trials, but that is not a substitute for a published accuracy table or a current authorization record.

There is an FDA-authorized precedent for breath-based COVID-19 testing, but it is a different product. The FDA reported that InspectIR’s breath test was evaluated in 2,409 people, with 91.2% sensitivity and 99.3% specificity. Those figures apply to InspectIR, not ViraWarn, and should not be used to estimate how well ViraWarn works.

The announced ViraWarn design uses breath blown into a mouthpiece, rather than a nasal swab. That describes the proposed sample method; it does not mean the device is currently available or authorized for use.
FDA-authorized alternatives for respiratory viruses do exist. For example, the FDA’s traditional authorization table lists the iHealth Flu A&B/COVID-19/RSV Rapid Test, with a decision date of December 12, 2025. This is a conventional test, not ViraWarn, and its authorization does not establish anything about ViraWarn’s performance or status.
