Opscura announced its launch and a $9.4 million Series A on February 7, 2023. The company was the new global brand of Spain-founded Enigmedia, and said it would use the funding to grow in the United States and reach more partners and customers. Its focus is protecting industrial control systems and legacy operational-technology (OT) assets with controls designed to work without disrupting operations.
What Opscura is and why it raised $9.4 million
Opscura is an industrial cybersecurity company focused on operational technology: the networks and devices used to monitor or control physical operations. It introduced the Opscura name in February 2023 after operating for more than a decade as Enigmedia, a company founded in Spain. Along with the new global brand, it announced a new management team and product upgrades.
SecurityWeek reported the funding announcement on February 7, 2023: Opscura had raised $9.4 million in a Series A led by Anzu Partners, with Dreamit and Mundi Ventures participating. The company said the proceeds would support growth and expansion in the United States, including engagement with additional U.S. partners and customers looking to protect and connect critical operations. This is the announced 2023 round, not a statement about the company’s current funding or financing status.
Leadership at launch
Enigmedia co-founders Gerard Vidal and Carlos Tomás took the roles of CTO and VP of Engineering, respectively. David Hatchell was appointed CEO.

How Opscura says its technology protects OT
Opscura describes its patented capability as cloaking: obscuring deeper OT Level 2 networks and Layer 2 data without disrupting operations. The stated aim is to make vulnerable industrial assets harder to reach or attack while allowing organizations to retain devices that may be difficult to take offline.
The launch materials connect the cloaking technology with several security functions: isolation between IT and OT, access control, authentication, deeper OT visibility, and reducing the attack surface. These are company-described capabilities and goals; the launch announcement does not provide independent test results or quantify security outcomes.

Why low-disruption controls matter
Industrial environments can depend on legacy devices that are difficult or risky to remove from service. Opscura’s stated use case is to add protection around such assets without requiring operational shutdowns. Its target settings include transportation, renewable energy, government, manufacturing, and chemical operations.
In its whitepaper, Opscura argues that OT teams are well placed to manage ICS cybersecurity but need solutions that do not demand dedicated network-engineering or cybersecurity skills. That is the company’s deployment rationale, not a published measurement of how much expertise or time a particular installation requires.

Opscura positioned itself as complementary to Claroty, Nozomi Networks, Fortinet, and other ICS-security tools—not as a replacement for every layer of an industrial security stack. Its stated emphasis is deeper OT layers, legacy endpoints, and controls intended to limit exposure without interrupting operations. The launch materials do not provide a feature-by-feature comparison, so they do not establish which product is best for a particular site or whether a specific combination will integrate in a particular deployment.
Opscura also identified Schneider Electric as a technology partner and said it participated in the Schneider Electric Exchange technology-partner program. Schneider Electric CTO Spain Francesc Juan said the company addressed multiple ICS use cases and simplified work involved in protecting deeper OT layers. CEO David Hatchell described the goal as helping customers move beyond device visibility to protect industrial assets and data.
