OPPO denies misappropriating Apple trade secrets and says it will cooperate with the lawsuit. On September 30, 2026, a federal judge allowed Apple’s claims to proceed past the dismissal stage—but did not decide that OPPO or anyone else stole confidential information.
What OPPO said about Apple’s lawsuit
In a statement reported by MacRumors on August 23, 2025, an OPPO spokesperson said the company had reviewed Apple’s complaint and “found no evidence establishing any connection between these allegations and the employee’s conduct during his employment at OPPO.”
“OPPO respects the trade secrets of all companies, including Apple, and OPPO has not misappropriated Apple’s trade secrets. OPPO will actively cooperate with the legal process, and we are confident that fair judicial proceedings will clarify the facts.”

That is OPPO’s public denial, not an independent finding about what happened. The statement refers to former Apple employee Chen Shi, whose conduct is central to Apple’s case.

What Apple alleges
Apple sued Shi, OPPO, and InnoPeak Technology in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in August 2025. In its complaint filed August 21, 2025, Apple alleged that Shi worked on Apple Watch health-sensing technology, obtained confidential information before leaving Apple, and disclosed information to OPPO and InnoPeak.
The September 30, 2026 order recites Apple’s allegation that Shi downloaded 63 documents from a protected Box folder shortly before leaving Apple. Apple also alleged that he attended meetings with Apple Watch technical team members and presented some information to OPPO and InnoPeak engineers. These are allegations, not findings after a trial.

What the September 2026 ruling decided—and what it did not
On September 30, 2026, District Judge Eumi K. Lee denied the defendants’ motions to dismiss Apple’s second amended complaint. The order concluded that certain claims were sufficiently plausible to continue, including Apple’s breach-of-contract claim against Shi, its identification of at least one alleged trade secret with enough specificity for this stage, and its claim that Zijing Zeng induced misappropriation. The order directed defendants to file responsive pleadings by October 21, 2026.

The ruling did not establish that the information was ultimately a trade secret, that any defendant misappropriated it, or that Apple is entitled to damages or an injunction. Those factual and legal questions remain unresolved.

Earlier discovery dispute
A separate order dated October 29, 2025 addressed disputes over the scope and method of document production. The court directed production of specified materials while declining some of OPPO’s broader requests for expedited discovery. That order provides procedural background; it is separate from Judge Lee’s September 2026 decision on the motions to dismiss.
