For buyers in India, the Motorola Edge 70 Max has the stronger headline hardware: a larger, sharper 144Hz display, a higher-tier listed chipset, a larger battery and wireless charging. The OPPO Reno16 5G (model CPH2865) makes the clearer case for camera versatility on paper, with four listed 50MP cameras and a 3.5× optical telephoto lens. These are specification-based differences, not results from side-by-side performance or camera testing.

India prices and variants

OPPO’s India details page listed the Reno16 5G at ₹66,999 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and ₹72,999 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, with prices stated as correct on 31 August 2026. Motorola’s India Edge 70 Max page displayed ₹54,999 against an MRP of ₹89,999 and listed 8GB+256GB and 12GB+256GB configurations. The Motorola price is a live listing figure, not a guaranteed checkout price; check stock, seller and offers before buying. OPPO’s dated Reno16 details and prices and Motorola India’s Edge 70 Max listing are the relevant references.

Do not confuse OPPO’s later listed prices with its launch prices: the 2 July 2026 announcement gave launch prices of ₹61,999 and ₹67,999 for the two Reno16 configurations. Prices and availability can change, so treat the figures above as dated context rather than a checkout quote. OPPO’s launch announcement records those initial prices.

Which phone has the better display and performance specs?

The Edge 70 Max leads on the listed display figures: Motorola specifies a 6.82-inch QHD+ panel at 144Hz, while OPPO lists a 16.05cm FHD+ AMOLED panel with a refresh rate up to 120Hz. Motorola also lists the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, compared with the Reno16’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. That gives Motorola the specification advantage for screen size, resolution, refresh rate and chipset tier. It does not establish which display looks better to a particular viewer or how either phone performs during long gaming sessions; no comparable independent test results are established here.

Which camera system is more versatile?

OPPO publishes a more complete camera setup: 50MP wide, 50MP ultra-wide, 50MP telephoto with 3.5× optical zoom, and 50MP front camera. It also lists video recording up to 4K/60fps. Motorola’s official information cited here confirms a 50MP primary camera, but does not provide a complete directly comparable set of camera specifications. The Reno16 therefore has the more fully documented range of camera roles, especially for optical telephoto and ultra-wide shooting. Megapixel counts and lens specifications alone cannot determine photo or video quality.

Battery, charging and practical differences

Motorola lists a 7,100mAh silicon-carbon battery, compared with OPPO’s 6,700mAh typical capacity (6,490mAh rated). It also specifies 90W wired charging, 25W Qi2 magnetic wireless charging and 5W wired reverse charging. OPPO lists 80W SUPERVOOC wired charging and says a charger is included in the India box. The published capacity figures favor Motorola on size, but they do not prove longer real-world battery life; manufacturer runtime claims are not side-by-side test results.

OPPO’s specifications say the Reno16 does not support NFC, eSIM, storage-card expansion or a 3.5mm headphone jack. These omissions may matter more than a display or chipset advantage if you rely on one of those features. Motorola’s cited India page describes submersion protection and Gorilla Glass 7i, while OPPO lists multiple IP ratings. The descriptions are not a like-for-like durability test, so a direct durability ranking is not justified.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose the Motorola Edge 70 Max if a larger, higher-resolution, faster-refresh display, the higher-tier listed chipset, a larger stated battery or magnetic wireless charging matters most. Its displayed India price is also lower than OPPO’s dated listed prices, but confirm the current price and availability.
  • Choose the OPPO Reno16 5G if you want the more completely specified camera arrangement, including a 3.5× optical telephoto, or value its included charger. Confirm the exact India model: OPPO warns that Reno16 models sold in other countries may have different specifications and prices.
  • Pause before choosing either if NFC, eSIM, expandable storage or a headphone jack is essential; OPPO explicitly lists those features as unsupported, and the Motorola information cited here does not establish a comparable full feature set.

For a final decision, compare the live listing for the exact RAM/storage variant you plan to buy, then weigh the feature you will use most. The spec sheet favors Motorola for display, chipset and charging breadth; OPPO’s published camera details make its imaging setup easier to assess, but neither set of specifications substitutes for independent comparative testing.
