On official India specifications, the OPPO Reno16 5G (model CPH2865) has the more versatile camera system and faster wired charging, while the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has a larger typical battery, a larger display and a much lower starting price. The entry-model price gap is ₹30,000, but the two entry models do not have the same storage, so that figure is not a like-for-like price difference. Neither phone has been shown to win in tested performance here; the better choice depends on which specifications matter to you.
Which models this comparison covers
This comparison covers the India models only. The OPPO Reno16 5G sold in India is model CPH2865. OPPO says that Reno16 series products differ by market. In its OPPO Global press release dated 25 June 2026, the company states: “Pricing, regional availability and release timing will vary by market.” Specifications and prices for other countries should not be read across to the India listings below.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G figures come from Xiaomi India’s product listing, which was checked live on 7 October 2026.

| Configuration | Price in India | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| OPPO Reno16 5G, 8GB + 256GB | ₹66,999 | OPPO India product details; stated as correct as at 31 August 2026 and inclusive of taxes |
| OPPO Reno16 5G, 12GB + 256GB | ₹72,999 | OPPO India product details; same date and tax basis |
| REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, listed “from” price | ₹36,999 | Xiaomi India live listing, checked 7 October 2026 |
| REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, 8GB + 256GB | Not stated | Listed as a configuration on the Xiaomi India page, but its price was not captured in the listing checked |
The entry-to-entry gap is ₹30,000 (₹66,999 minus ₹36,999). That gap compares a 256GB phone with a phone that has 128GB of storage, if the ₹36,999 figure is the 8GB + 128GB price. The fair comparison is the 8GB + 256GB Reno16 at ₹66,999 against the 8GB + 256GB REDMI at its own price, which the checked listing did not show. Until that figure is confirmed, the true gap for matched storage is unknown.

Camera: telephoto is the clearest difference on paper
Rear cameras
The Reno16 lists three 50MP rear cameras: a main camera with OIS, an ultrawide, and a telephoto with OIS that provides 3.5x optical zoom. The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G lists a 50MP main camera with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide. No telephoto lens is listed on the Redmi, so optical zoom beyond the main camera is not established for that model.

- 158.2 x 74.5 x 8.4 mm or 8.6 mm, 194 g or 196 g (6.84 oz)
The listings show that the Reno16 has an optical telephoto and a higher-resolution ultrawide. They do not show how either phone performs in real photos, colour, low light or video. Treat the camera difference as a hardware difference until independent camera tests are available.
Selfie camera
The Reno16 has a 50MP autofocus selfie camera, and the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has a 16MP selfie camera. If you shoot a lot of rear-camera self-portraits, OPPO sells an optional accessory called OPPO Bubble. OPPO describes it as a 35-gram magnetic accessory that works as a real-time rear-camera monitor and as a remote viewfinder and shutter, compatible with Reno16 series devices. Its availability outside OPPO’s own channels in India was not confirmed.
Battery and charging
Battery capacity
The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G lists a 9000mAh typical capacity, using silicon-carbon cells. The Reno16 lists 6700mAh typical and 6490mAh rated. The typical figures give the Redmi about 2300mAh more, roughly 34% more than the Reno16’s typical figure. The rated and typical numbers are different measurements, so do not compare the Reno16’s rated figure directly with the Redmi’s typical figure.

Capacity is not battery life. Display size, processor, software and how you use the phone all change how long a charge lasts. Battery life outcomes for either phone were not established from the listings.

Charging speed
The Reno16 supports 80W SUPERVOOC charging. The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G supports 67W fast charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging, which lets it charge another device by cable. Full charge times for either phone were not established from the listings, so the speed difference is a rated figure rather than a timed test.
Display
Both phones use AMOLED panels rated for up to 120Hz. The Reno16 display measures 16.05cm (about 6.32 inches) diagonally at 2640 × 1216. The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G display measures 17.34cm (about 6.83 inches) at 2772 × 1280, and Xiaomi describes it as flat.

Durability and storage
The Reno16 lists IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. The Xiaomi India listing checked for the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G does not state an IP rating. If dust and water resistance matter to you, check the full official specification sheet for the Redmi before buying.
The Reno16 has no storage card slot. Whether the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G supports expandable storage was not stated in the listing checked. Only buy on the assumption of a fixed storage capacity until you have confirmed otherwise.
Which phone fits which priorities
- Choose the Reno16 5G if optical telephoto zoom, the faster 80W charging and the listed IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings matter more to you than the lowest price.
- Choose the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G if a lower starting price, the largest typical battery and the bigger display matter more to you.
- If you need an ultrawide and a telephoto, the Reno16’s listed rear system covers both. The Redmi’s listed rear system covers an ultrawide only.
No independent camera, battery, charging or performance test was reviewed for this comparison, so neither phone is named a tested winner. The decision rests on the published specifications and your priorities.
