OpenText Content Manager has three distinct security advisories administrators should assess: CVE-2024-1973 (authorization bypass and privilege elevation), CVE-2024-12530 (insecure DLL loading), and CVE-2024-10863 (audit-log integrity). Their affected components and fixes differ, so identify the exact CVE and installed release before deploying a patch. The available material does not establish that all three are “critical”; an OpenText technical support specialist described CVE-2024-12530 as high, not critical.
Which OpenText Content Manager vulnerabilities are covered?
These advisories concern OpenText Content Manager, also referred to as Secure Content Manager in the vendor alerts. They do not establish that every OpenText ECM product or every release is affected. Use the CVE and version-specific scope rather than treating the notices as one system-wide flaw.
| CVE | Weakness and potential impact | Scope described by OpenText | Listed remediation |
|---|---|---|---|
| CVE-2024-1973 | Authorization bypass and elevation of privileges through advanced techniques and client manipulation. | Supported affected versions 10.0, 10.1, 23.3 and 23.4. Desktop clients and integrations using .NET SDK or COM SDK on client computers are in scope; server-side integrations and Service API integrations are not. | Version-specific fixed builds listed below. The vendor says server updates are sufficient. |
| CVE-2024-12530 | Insecure DLL loading could let an end user execute malicious code in the trusted context of the thick-client application. | The alert describes Content Manager 23.4 and older as affected; the exposure concerns the thick client. | Specified 23.4 patch/hotfix builds, or versions 24.2 and later according to related vendor guidance. |
| CVE-2024-10863 | A user could potentially prevent client-side events from reaching the central audit log. | Audit-trail capture behavior; the surfaced material does not provide a complete affected-version range. | Fix described as moving audit-trail capture to the server. Verify the exact build in the support portal. |
OpenText’s source notices are CVE-2024-1973: Elevation of privileges vulnerability, Insecure Dynamic-Link Library (DLL) Load vulnerability in OpenText Secure Content Manager, and the CVE-2024-10863 security alert. Confirm current applicability and package availability through OpenText Support before a production rollout.
What fixes are listed for CVE-2024-1973?
OpenText describes CVE-2024-1973 as a flaw in which a logged-in user could bypass authorization protocols and elevate privileges, affecting records management for vulnerable users. Its scope is specifically client-focused: desktop clients and integrations using the .NET SDK or COM SDK on client computers. The vendor says server-side integrations and Service API integrations are not impacted by this vulnerability.

| 23.4 | Patch 1 Build 111 | PH_215013 |
| 23.3 | Patch 1 Build 434 | PH_215044 |
| 10.1 | Patch 5 Release Build 1054 | PH_215040 |
| 10.0 | Patch 6 Build 1402 | PH_215038 |
Apply the package corresponding to the installed release line. OpenText says a server update is sufficient to remediate this issue. If the deployment is on an unsupported version, the vendor advises planning an upgrade to a supported version rather than relying on a patch line not listed for that release.
Temporary risk reduction while patching CVE-2024-1973
OpenText presents these as interim mitigations, not replacements for applying the fix:

The severity should not be generalized from the word “critical” in a broad headline. In a reply on the vendor’s alert, Graeme Christieson, Lead Technical Support Specialist, Global Technical Support, wrote: “I think Punya’s post explains things well, also this CVE is marked high and not critical, so there is no hotfix for the extended support per definition.” That statement refers to CVE-2024-12530, not to all three advisories.

CVE-2024-10863 concerns audit-log integrity, not the client authorization weakness or DLL loading. The surfaced vendor alert material says users could potentially prevent client-side events from being recorded in the central audit log. It describes the correction as moving audit-trail capture to the server side.

| Release line | Surfaced fixed build | Release date stated in surfaced material |
|---|---|---|
| 24.3 | Patch 1 Build 86 | 2024-11-14 |
| 24.2 | Patch 1 Build 123 | 2024-11-14 |
| 23.4 | Patch 2 Build 240 | 2024-10-29 |
| 10.1 | Patch 6 Build 1185 | 2024-10-29 |
These builds and dates were surfaced in indexed vendor alert material and related discussion; verify them in the OpenText support portal before treating them as deployment instructions. The available alert information does not establish a full affected-version range.
How should administrators choose and deploy a fix?
- Record the exact product and build. Identify the Content Manager release, patch line, and whether users rely on desktop clients, .NET SDK or COM SDK integrations on client machines, server-side integrations, or Service API integrations.
- Map the exposure to the CVE. Use the distinct scopes above; in particular, do not infer that CVE-2024-1973 affects server-side or Service API integrations.
- Check the matching vendor package. Use the fixed build for that release line, and verify current package availability and applicability through OpenText Support.
- Plan deployment and validation. Follow your organization’s change process, install the applicable vendor fix, then confirm the deployed build and relevant client or audit behavior.
- Use interim controls only where necessary. If a fix cannot be installed immediately, apply the applicable CVE-2024-1973 mitigations while arranging patching or, for unsupported releases, an upgrade plan.
Do not treat a fix listed for one CVE as remediation for the others: the advisories describe different weaknesses, patch lines, and affected system surfaces.
