OpenAI plans to establish its first permanent London premises at Regent Quarter in King’s Cross. Endurance Land says the company has leased 88,500 square feet across Jahn Court and the Brassworks Building, with occupation expected from 2027. This is a permanent-office announcement, not the launch of OpenAI’s London presence: the company opened its first international office in London in 2023.

What OpenAI announced

In April 2026, property company Endurance Land announced that OpenAI had selected Jahn Court and Brassworks at Regent Quarter, King’s Cross, for its first permanent London office. The reported leased area is 88,500 square feet, and the announcement says occupation is expected from 2027.

The sources describe a planned premises rather than a completed opening. No confirmed date for the office to begin operating has been published.

Where the office will be

The planned site spans two buildings at Regent Quarter:

  • Jahn Court
  • The Brassworks Building

Both are in King’s Cross, a major central London transport and commercial district. The announcement identifies Jahn Court as accommodating the broad mix of teams planned for the site.

Which teams are expected to work there?

Endurance Land’s announcement lists the following functions for the London premises:

  • Research and engineering
  • Customer support
  • Integrity
  • Enterprise
  • Start-up work
  • Policy
  • Communications
  • Marketing
  • Sales

Phoebe Thacker, OpenAI’s global head of data research programmes and London site lead, described London as an existing key hub for the company’s research and teams. She said the new office would provide space to continue building there.

First London operation June 2023 OpenAI announced London as its first international office, with teams focused on research, engineering, community collaboration and policymaker engagement.
First permanent London premises April 2026 announcement OpenAI selected 88,500 square feet at Regent Quarter in King’s Cross, with occupation expected from 2027.

In other words, OpenAI already had a London team and operation before selecting a long-term home. The 2026 announcement concerns the company’s permanent premises, not its first physical or organisational presence in the city.

How large is OpenAI’s London operation?

OpenAI said in 2025 that its London team had grown to more than 100 staff at that time. That figure describes the team then; it is not a forecast for the eventual size of the King’s Cross office.

Some secondary reports and social posts have suggested capacities of roughly 500 people or more, but the cited Endurance Land announcement does not confirm a specific occupancy capacity. Those figures should therefore not be treated as established facts.

Why London matters to OpenAI

When OpenAI announced its London office in 2023, it said the city would expand its research and engineering footprint and support collaboration with local communities and policymakers. The permanent King’s Cross premises indicate an intention to give that established operation a long-term base and room for a wider set of functions.

The planned combination of technical, integrity, policy, support and go-to-market teams also suggests that the site is intended to serve more than a standalone research outpost. The announcement, however, does not provide an independent assessment of jobs, investment or economic effects.
