If owning and running a business is the priority, the closest announced match is Fable—but it is not scheduled to launch until 23 February 2027. For a game you can play now, FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time offers 14 job-like “Lives” and home customization. Skyrim with the Hearthfire add-on is a housing-first option, while Early Access sandbox KINGDOMS advertises shop and settlement management.
The key distinction is whether you want a released game or can wait for Fable, whose announced features most directly match business ownership, employment, and housing.
Fable: closest match for owning a business and being a landlord
Fable is a forthcoming single-player, fully open-world action RPG. Its official FAQ describes buying homes, becoming a landlord, managing businesses, and working as a blacksmith. The developer has also described buying a shop and becoming its employer: players can set wages, but workers may refuse to work for them. That makes business ownership more than a simple passive-income promise in the announced design.

These are announced plans, not a released-game assessment, and the date or features could change. The studio also describes a population of “1,000+ hand crafted NPCs”; that is an announced figure, not an independently verified count in a shipped game.

Best released choice for jobs and a customizable home: FANTASY LIFE i
FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time is the clearest released option if “get a job” means having distinct activities and roles to pursue. Nintendo calls its 14 jobs “Lives,” spanning gathering, crafting, and combat; players can switch between them. The game also lets players shape the island, place houses and objects, and expand and decorate their home. Nintendo lists its release date as 21 May 2025.

This is a good fit for job variety and home customization, but Nintendo’s description does not establish that players can own or operate shops or other businesses.

Housing-first option: Skyrim with Hearthfire
If buying land and building a home matter more than running a business, Skyrim with the Hearthfire add-on is a partial match. Bethesda says players can qualify to purchase land in Falkreath, Hjaalmarch, or Dawnstar after earning the relevant Jarl’s trust and receiving a letter. This supports a home-building recommendation, not a claim that the game offers conventional jobs or business ownership.

Check that Hearthfire or an edition that includes it is available for your platform before choosing this option.

Sandbox option for shops and settlements: KINGDOMS
KINGDOMS is a procedural medieval RPG set in a randomly generated open world. Its Steam listing advertises trading, opening shops, taverns, or manufactories, and creating or managing settlements and kingdoms. Those systems make it the most direct advertised sandbox alternative if you want to build an economic or settlement-focused playthrough.
