Press Windows+R, enter printmanagement.msc, and press Enter to open the Print Management console. It is an administrative tool for managing printers and print servers—not the queue that shows jobs waiting for one printer.
Open Print Management with the Run command
- Press Windows+R to open Run.
- Type
printmanagement.msc. - Press Enter. If the console is available on your Windows installation, Print Management opens.
Microsoft’s documentation identifies the console file as PrintManagement.msc; Windows accepts the command in lowercase as shown here. Microsoft’s printing guidance references that file.
Choose the right tool for your task

For the queue, Windows 11 uses Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. Windows 10 uses Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. Microsoft’s instructions cover both versions; its page also notes that Windows 10 support ended on 2025-10-14. View a printer’s print queue in Windows.
If Windows cannot find printmanagement.msc
An error that Windows cannot find the file usually means the console is not available in that installation. Do not assume there is one installation command that works for every Windows client or edition.

Microsoft’s RSAT reference describes Print and Document Services Tools as tools for administering print servers and printers. Its table lists those tools as available on Windows Server and unavailable in the two Windows-client installation columns shown. That reference concerns the listed RSAT tools; it does not establish that every Windows client image lacks every possible way to provision the console. - Check that you need the administrative console rather than a single printer’s queue.
- If you only need to inspect or manage pending jobs, use that printer’s queue in Settings.
- If you need print-server administration, identify your Windows version and edition before looking for an installation method. The available Microsoft guidance does not establish a universal client-side installation recipe.
Do not confuse it with Computer Management
compmgmt.msc opens Computer Management, a separate Windows console. It is not an alternate command for Print Management. Microsoft’s overview of Windows system configuration tools documents Computer Management as a distinct tool.
