Which pick best matches your needs?
For detailed sound: Beyerdynamic Amiron ZERO
Tom’s Guide positions the Amiron ZERO for listeners who want detailed sound while keeping ambient awareness. Its reported IP54 rating and companion-app EQ may appeal if you want a degree of dust and water resistance and sound adjustment. The article reports 20 hours of battery life; treat that as its product claim rather than a guaranteed result for every listening pattern.

For a cuff-like fit: original Bose Ultra Open
The Ultra Open featured in the roundup is the original model, not the newer 2nd Gen. Its flexible cuff-like design sits around the ear rather than sealing the ear canal. Tom’s Guide describes its sound and bass as premium and reports 27 hours of battery life. Bose announced the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) at $299 for October 1, 2026 availability, so confirm the generation on the listing; the newer model is a separate product. See Bose’s announcement.
For a lower listed price: SoundPEATS UU2
The UU2 is the roundup’s lower-price option, listed at £45 rather than dollars. Verify that the offer is available in your market and that the listing is for the UU2. Tom’s Guide reports 42 hours of battery life but flags weaker call quality, a meaningful trade-off if you make frequent calls.

For clip-style wear and translation: EarFun Clip 2
The Clip 2 uses a clip-style fit and is described as offering real-time AI translation. Tom’s Guide reports 40 hours of battery life, while noting the bass limitations common to open buds. Translation features should not be treated as a substitute for checking supported languages, connectivity and current product details on the seller’s listing.

Open-ear earbuds leave the ear canal unsealed, which can make it easier to hear surrounding sounds while listening. That also means they provide less isolation than sealed in-ear earbuds. The amount of awareness depends on the design, fit, volume and environment; open-ear listening is not a guarantee that you will hear every sound around you. Bose explains its open-ear approach in its product announcement.

- Ultra-Comfortable and Secure Fit: Experience the lightweight comfort and stability of our open-ear headphones. Featuring a non-intrusive design and soft, flexible ear hooks for a perfect fit—ensuring that you can wear them all day without discomfort, and they remain stable even during exercise.
- Enhanced Awareness: Remain aware of your surroundings, such as public transit announcements and oncoming cars. Stay in touch with the world around you thanks to the open design of soundcore V30i open-ear headphones. Suitable for outdoor leisure, sports, office work, driving, and home entertainment.
- Balanced and Clear Sound: soundcore V30i open-ear headphones feature a 14.2mm bio-material diaphragm that heightens bass output for an audio experience that always hits the right beat.
- All-Day Companion: Enjoy 12 hours of play on a single charge, extending to a total of 36 hours with the charging case. Better yet, a quick 10-minute charge delivers an impressive 3 hours of listening.
- IP55 Dust and Water-Resistant with Exclusive SweatGuard: soundcore V30i uses nano-coating and a unique chamber design for complete protection. Crafted to ensure that critical areas, such as the chipsets and battery compartment, remain sealed.
Awareness is not active noise cancellation. Bose says its open models do not offer ANC. If you want a design that can switch between open and more sealed listening, soundcore describes the AeroFit 2 Pro as a switchable open/sealed option, though its isolation is lighter than that of fully sealed ANC earbuds. Details are in soundcore’s product information.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose between open-ear designs
- Fit and activity: Cuff and clip designs sit around the ear; ear-hook designs can suit sport and help resist movement. Fit and stability vary by person, so consider the return policy if you have not tried the style before.
- Sound expectations: Open designs generally trade isolation for awareness. Compare bass and overall sound expectations rather than assuming an open pair will sound like sealed in-ear earbuds.
- Calls: If calls matter, weigh the UU2’s reported call-quality drawback and look for product-specific call information rather than relying on battery life or fit descriptions.
- Durability: Among these four, Tom’s Guide specifically reports an IP54 rating for the Amiron ZERO. Do not assume another model has the same rating unless its own specification confirms it.
- Generation and listing details: Bose’s original Ultra Open is distinct from the Ultra Open 2nd Gen. Verify the model name and generation before checkout.
Other options named in product information include soundcore AeroClip, AeroFit 2 Pro and AeroFit 2, as well as Bose Sport Open and Ultra Open 2nd Gen. soundcore listed promotional prices of $99.99 for AeroClip, $125.99 for AeroFit 2 Pro and $75.98 for AeroFit 2 during October 6–7, 2026; those are also time-limited US promotion figures, not evergreen prices. Bose announced the Sport Open Earbuds at $199. These alternatives are not presented as tested picks in Tom’s Guide’s four-product roundup. See soundcore and Bose for their product announcements.
