Bell says Ookla named Bell Pure Fibre Canada’s fastest Internet for the third and fourth quarters of 2025, while Bell 5G won several 5G and mobile-network awards. Those results cover the second half of 2025—not the entire year—and do not guarantee the same speeds at every address. Bell’s current homepage makes separate claims based on the first half of 2026, so the periods should not be conflated.
What did Ookla name Bell fastest for?
In a January 15, 2026 announcement, Bell said the Q3–Q4 2025 Speedtest Awards recognized Bell Pure Fibre as Canada’s fastest Internet for the sixth consecutive reporting period. The release also says Bell 5G received fastest and best 5G honours, alongside awards in gaming and other mobile-network categories. Bell attributes those outcomes to Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data for the second half of 2025. Bell’s announcement reports nine combined Speedtest Awards for Bell and Bell Pure Fibre; the release attributes that figure to Stephen Bye, Ookla’s president and CEO.
These are category-specific awards, not a single ranking that establishes Bell as the best provider for every kind of connection or every customer. The announcement does not provide comparative median download or upload speeds, so it does not establish how far Bell led competitors.
Which reporting period do Bell’s current claims cover?
Bell’s homepage now cites Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data for the first half of 2026 in separate claims about its Internet and national 5G speeds. These later claims refer to a different period than the Q3–Q4 2025 awards. The accessible homepage text does not show the underlying report or comparative scores, so treat these specifics as claims made by Bell rather than as independently detailed award results. - DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
The available Ookla methodology document concerns cellular availability claims. It describes how devices and cellular technology use factor into availability comparisons; it does not explain the calculation of the fastest-Internet or speed-award categories discussed here. Does this mean Bell will be fastest at your home or on your phone?
No. A national award describes results for a defined period and category; it is not a promise of a particular speed at every address or on every device. Bell’s claims do not establish address-level performance. Fibre availability varies by location, and mobile performance depends on where you use the network. Check service availability for your address and compare your results in the places you regularly use your phone.

For a useful provider comparison, match the reporting period and category, then compare actual download and upload speeds, ping and jitter under similar test conditions. Also check each provider’s current plan speed, data terms and total cost; these award results alone do not settle which service is the better fit.
Why might a Bell speed test be slower than your plan?
Bell’s speed test measures the connection between a device and a test server. A plan’s advertised speed refers to the speed delivered to the modem, not necessarily the speed a particular device receives over Wi-Fi. Device capability, distance from the modem, wireless interference, other connected devices and background applications can affect the device’s result. Bell’s speed-test guide explains the measures and common causes of variation.

- Upload: how quickly data is sent.
- Ping: response time, measured in milliseconds.
- Jitter: variation in ping over time.
How to get a more useful result
- Use an up-to-date browser and connect to your modem over Ethernet for the clearest test of the connection reaching your home. Bell recommends a wired test for best accuracy.
- If you test over Wi-Fi, run the test near the modem to reduce the effect of distance and obstacles.
- Disconnect other devices where practical and pause downloads, streaming, and background applications so they do not compete for bandwidth.
- Disable a VPN while testing, then run the test again. Compare results under similar conditions rather than comparing a wired test with a distant Wi-Fi test.
