Sigma’s new 50–120mm F2.8 DC OS | Contemporary is a constant-aperture telephoto zoom for APS-C mirrorless cameras, announced October 8, 2026, with US authorized-dealer availability from Thursday, October 22, 2026, at $799 USD. It is made for Sony E, Fujifilm X and Canon RF mounts. The 390g weight in the headline applies to the Sony E and Fujifilm X versions. The Canon RF version weighs 410g.
Which version you need and what it weighs
The lens is sold in three mount versions. Sigma’s product specification page lists the weight and external dimensions for each one, so the mount you choose changes the numbers you should plan around.
| Mount | Weight | Diameter × length |
|---|---|---|
| Sony E | 390g | 66.8 × 99.0mm |
| Fujifilm X | 390g | 66.8 × 99.3mm |
| Canon RF | 410g | 69.0 × 97.0mm |
The Canon RF version is 20g heavier and slightly wider, though its length is shorter than the Sony E version. Sigma’s announcement gives a 99mm length without separating the mounts, so use the table above for mount-specific figures. Source: Sigma product specification page.

The lens covers 50–120mm on the sensor. Sigma describes this as approximately 75–180mm in 35mm-equivalent terms. That equivalence matches a 1.5x crop factor, which is the conversion used by Sony E and Fujifilm X APS-C bodies.

Canon’s APS-C RF-S bodies use a 1.6x crop. The same optical range on those bodies works out to roughly 80–192mm equivalent by simple arithmetic. Sigma’s 75–180mm figure should therefore be read as a Sony E and Fujifilm X figure. Canon RF users should expect a slightly longer effective reach.
Aperture, stabilization and build
The maximum aperture is F2.8 across the entire zoom range. The minimum aperture is F22. Sigma includes an aperture ring, which the company says is not found on its sister lenses in the same line.

Price and availability
Sigma Corporation of America states a US price of $799 USD. US authorized dealers begin selling the lens on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The announcement does not give prices or release dates for other countries, so treat the US figures as the only confirmed ones. Prices and dates may change before release. The primary announcement is at Sigma’s October 8, 2026 press release.

Where it fits in Sigma’s APS-C line
Sigma positions this lens as the constant-F2.8 telephoto piece of its APS-C Contemporary zoom series. It joins the 10–18mm F2.8 DC DN and the 18–50mm F2.8 DC DN. Sigma also describes it as a smaller APS-C take on the classic 70–200mm F2.8 role. That is a positioning claim, not a measured equivalence in image quality or handling.

“Sigma’s Contemporary line has always emphasized an exceedingly compact form factor and reduced weight without compromising our standard for image quality. The 50-120mm F2.8 meets that benchmark while pushing the line forward in build and handling, including an aperture ring not found on its sister lenses.”
What is not yet established
As of this writing, the lens has been announced but not released. No hands-on testing, independent optical measurements or side-by-side comparison with other APS-C telephoto zooms have been published. Image quality, autofocus speed and real-world stabilization are all unverified. Readers comparing it with other lenses should use the specifications above as the starting point, then check reviews after the October 22 release.
