The OnePlus Buds 3 are capable everyday earbuds for commuting and travel: reviewers praise their comfortable fit, effective noise cancellation and lively, bass-forward sound. Their strongest case is a broad feature set that includes multipoint connectivity and app-based adjustments. They are less compelling for gaming, where reviewers report noticeable Bluetooth latency, or for listeners who want a neutral tuning. Battery life also depends heavily on whether ANC and other features are enabled.
What the OnePlus Buds 3 offer
Each earbud combines a 10.4 mm woofer with a 6 mm tweeter. OnePlus lists Bluetooth 5.3, AAC, SBC and LHDC codec support, three microphones per side, USB Type-C charging and Google Fast Pair. The stated maximum transmission distance is 10 m under the conditions specified by OnePlus.
The earbuds support dual connection, so they can connect to two devices. Settings are managed through OnePlus’s Wireless Earphones app or HeyMelody. OnePlus says Hi-Res audio requires LHDC 4.0 or later and is not supported on iOS; Audio ID 2.0 and 3D audio also have app or device requirements. Feature availability and behavior can therefore vary by phone and software.

OnePlus claims up to 49 dB of Smart Adaptive ANC. That is a manufacturer specification, not a promise that every listener will experience that amount of cancellation: results depend on fit, noise type and surroundings. RTINGS found the ANC effective for commuting and travel, particularly against engine rumble and passenger conversation, while noting weaker isolation in some mid-range situations.

How they sound and feel
RTINGS describes a prominent bass emphasis alongside good overall isolation. Tom’s Guide also characterizes the sound as lively. That energetic presentation can suit pop, electronic music and bass-heavy tracks, but listeners who prefer a flatter, more neutral balance may want a different tuning.
Both reviewers describe useful comfort and everyday practicality; RTINGS specifically considers the fit comfortable for commuting and travel. Fit is personal, so the included silicone tips in S, M and L matter: a secure seal affects both comfort and the perceived bass and ANC.
Tom’s Guide found the 3D or spatial-audio effect less natural than some alternatives. Treat that as a reviewer’s impression rather than a universal result, and consider whether spatial audio is important to your listening before buying.

ANC, calls and connectivity
For transit, the combination of adaptive ANC and a comfortable fit makes the Buds 3 a credible option. Tom’s Guide praised the ANC and calls, while RTINGS’ tests found useful reductions in engine noise and passenger conversation. Those are review findings, not a guarantee of the same performance in every environment or for every voice.
Multipoint and app controls add flexibility for switching between devices and adjusting the listening experience. The stated 94 ms audio-latency figure is qualified by OnePlus: it applies to select OnePlus phones using Pro Gaming mode. It should not be read as a general latency measurement for all phones, games or video apps.
Battery life: published estimates versus review testing
OnePlus’s estimates below use AAC at 50% volume. The company says actual playtime varies with volume, features, calls, source and environment. Its LHDC estimates are lower than the AAC figures.

These are OnePlus’s maximum estimates, not independent measurements. RTINGS reported nearly seven hours with ANC on in its own testing. Tom’s Guide found that using several special features together can drain the battery faster. For a realistic expectation, use the estimate matching your codec and ANC setting as a starting point, then allow for additional use of calls and other features.

Gaming is the main caveat. RTINGS reports high Bluetooth latency that can produce a noticeable mismatch between game audio and on-screen action. OnePlus’s low-latency claim is limited to select OnePlus phones in Pro Gaming mode, and RTINGS cautions that the mode does not resolve the issue for every player. If precise timing matters, these are a riskier choice than earbuds or a headset designed for low-latency gaming.
They can be used with an iPhone, but not every feature is identical across platforms. OnePlus explicitly says Hi-Res is unavailable on iOS, and other functions may depend on the companion app and device. Check that the features you care about are supported on your own phone rather than assuming the Android and iOS experiences match.

Durability and what comes in the box
OnePlus rates the earbuds IP55 for dust and water resistance; the charging case is not included in that rating. OnePlus warns that resistance can decline with age and that liquid- or dust-related damage is not covered under warranty. The rating should not be treated as permission to submerge or deliberately expose the earbuds to harsh conditions.
The box includes the earbuds, charging case, three sizes of silicone tips (S, M and L), a USB Type-C cable, user guide and safety/warranty card.

Should you buy the OnePlus Buds 3?
They make sense if you want commute-friendly ANC, a comfortable fit, energetic bass-forward sound and multipoint connectivity, and if their codec and app features suit your phone. Tom’s Guide’s positive assessment of calls and sound, together with RTINGS’ commuting findings, supports that use case.
Look elsewhere if you prioritize low-latency gaming, neutral sound, wireless charging or greater case protection. RTINGS’ comparison discussion identifies alternatives that may offer more neutral tuning, stronger isolation, wireless charging or different microphone performance; the better choice depends on which trade-offs matter most to you. Since local price and availability change, compare the current price of the exact OnePlus Buds 3 earbuds with competing models in your region before deciding.
