The OnePlus 16 has been reported to reach 185Hz, but only in supported gaming scenarios. The broader display rate reported for everyday use is 165Hz. The BOE X4 material and its claims of lower power use and longer lifespan come from leaks, and no independent test has verified them. As of October 9, 2026, the phone is listed on OnePlus’s China site, where reservations are open, and a community launch post gives an October 12, 2026 release date. Availability outside China, final pricing, and final specifications are not established in the sources.
What is confirmed so far
- OnePlus’s China product page identifies the OnePlus 16 and accepts reservations. See the OnePlus China OnePlus 16 launch page.
- A OnePlus Community post dated October 6, 2026 gives an October 12, 2026 release date. Treat this as China launch information; the post does not establish a global schedule. See the OnePlus Community launch thread.
- Every display figure below comes from tipster claims, leak reports, or launch preview material. None of them is a final specification sheet.
165Hz and 185Hz are two different claims
165Hz: the general display rate
The 165Hz figure is the one reported for native, system-wide operation. A September 18, 2026 Gadgets 360 report attributes 165Hz for global operation, and 185Hz for gaming mode, to tipster Digital Chat Station. OnePlus Community launch material also describes native 165Hz display operation alongside 185Hz gaming.
185Hz: gaming scenarios only
The 185Hz and 185fps figures are reported for supported gaming scenarios. That wording does not mean the screen refreshes at 185Hz for messages, browsing, or video. It also does not say which games qualify. Final device specifications and game lists will settle that.
Hz and fps are not the same thing
Panel refresh rate is how many times per second the display can redraw. Frame rate is how many frames the game actually renders. A 185Hz panel has spare capacity, but it does not add frames. If a game’s engine or the phone’s graphics load limits it to 90fps, the screen shows 90 new frames per second, not 185. The panel’s upper limit only matters when the game can produce that many frames.

BOE X4: what is claimed and what is not
A Notebookcheck report dated August 17, 2026 says OnePlus and BOE have reportedly developed a new X4 light-emitting material for the phone. The same report attributes two claims to the leak: lower power use than the previous X3 material, and twice its lifespan. The report also says the leak gave no exact resolution, peak brightness, or final refresh-rate figures.
The predecessor baseline
OnePlus’s official OnePlus 15 page identifies that phone’s panel as X3 and describes its 165Hz display. That page confirms the X3 baseline for the previous model. It does not confirm anything about X4 performance on the OnePlus 16.

The sub-1mm bezel claim
An Android Authority report from June 16, 2026 says Digital Chat Station claimed sub-1mm bezels on all four sides. That report states the figures came from engineering prototypes rather than final retail hardware, and that they could change before release. A narrower bezel changes the screen-to-body ratio. It does not by itself change refresh rate, brightness, or game support, so it should be read separately from the 185Hz question.

Will the OnePlus 16 screen save battery?
The sources do not establish this. The lower power use attributed to X4 is a leak claim, and no independent OnePlus 16 battery test appears in them. Real battery effects depend on factors that are not yet published: whether the phone lowers its refresh rate for static content, the brightness it runs at, and the workload of the game or app. Until a reviewer tests the phone under matched settings, a battery benefit should be treated as possible, not proven.

What to check when the phone ships
- Scope of 185Hz: whether it applies only inside games or also to system interfaces and apps.
- Game list: which titles officially support the higher rate, and whether they reach it in practice.
- Final panel specs: resolution, peak brightness, and confirmed refresh-rate modes from OnePlus’s full specification sheet.
- Power measurements: battery drain in the same game, at the same brightness, compared with the OnePlus 15 and its X3 panel.
- Motion and touch response: measured figures from independent testing, not tipster estimates.
When comparing the OnePlus 16 with another gaming phone, use the same five points so the comparison stays like-for-like. Until those values are published, no winner can be named.
Source note on phone pricing and international availability: none is established in the sources cited here. Check local OnePlus channels before planning a purchase.
