The OnePlus 12R and OnePlus Nord 5 make different spec-sheet trade-offs: the 12R lists a larger 5,500 mAh battery and a dynamic 1–120 Hz LTPO display, while the Nord 5 lists a 144 Hz AMOLED display, a newer-named Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 platform, and a higher-resolution front camera. Both cited spec pages list 80W SUPERVOOC charging. There is no reliable current price pair here, so a price winner depends on your country, configuration, seller, and warranty.
OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus Nord 5: key specifications
The figures below come from different regional OnePlus pages: the 12R specifications are from the US page, the Nord 5 specifications from Estonia, and some Nord 5 camera and software claims from the UK product page. Regional models and availability can vary, so check the specification page and listing for your market before buying.

Which display is better for you?
The Nord 5 lists the higher maximum refresh rate: up to 144 Hz, compared with the 12R’s dynamic 1–120 Hz LTPO panel. A higher refresh ceiling may appeal if you value smoother motion in supported content, while the 12R’s listed LTPO range allows its refresh rate to vary dynamically. Refresh rate alone does not establish overall display quality or battery consumption; brightness, color, viewing conditions, and software behavior also matter.

The phones use different Qualcomm platforms: the 12R lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with Adreno 740 graphics, and the Nord 5 lists Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 with Adreno 735. Those component names do not establish which phone performs better across games, apps, thermals, or sustained workloads. No comparable independent benchmark results are available here, so avoid treating a model number or GPU name as a conclusive performance ranking.

Storage tiers differ too. The listed 12R options are 8 GB/128 GB and 16 GB/256 GB; the Nord 5 options are 8 GB/256 GB and 12 GB/512 GB. Availability may vary by market. When comparing offers, match storage capacity first, then compare the price and memory configuration rather than assuming the base model names describe equivalent products.
Does the 12R last longer on a charge?
OnePlus lists a 5,500 mAh battery for the 12R and 5,200 mAh for the Nord 5. That makes the 12R’s stated capacity larger, but capacity is not a controlled endurance test: screen settings, signal conditions, software, and usage can all affect runtime. The specifications do not prove which phone lasts longer in everyday use.
Both cited spec pages list 80W SUPERVOOC charging. The Estonia Nord 5 page also lists 18W PD and 55W PPS. Confirm the charging details and included equipment for the exact regional model and seller; the shared 80W figure by itself does not establish equal real-world charging time.

Which phone has the better cameras?
The published camera details are not evenly matched. The 12R US specifications give a 50 MP Sony IMX890 main camera with OIS, an 8 MP ultrawide, a 2 MP macro, and a 16 MP front camera. The Nord 5 UK product page advertises 50 MP rear and 50 MP front cameras, but the available detail is not enough for a like-for-like assessment of the rear-camera systems.
Megapixel counts do not determine photo quality on their own. Sensor behavior, stabilization, lenses, image processing, and low-light performance matter; without comparable tests, the stated specifications do not establish a camera winner.
How do their software-support commitments compare?
OnePlus’s US 12R specification page says the phone will receive at least three generations of Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates from launch. The UK Nord 5 product page advertises “4 Android versions, 6-year security.” These are manufacturer-published commitments, not confirmation of the current update status of a particular device. Check that the promise applies to the regional model you are buying and verify current support information with OnePlus.

What is the price difference?
A dependable current price difference cannot be stated without a country and comparable live listings. Prices, promotions, stock, and storage configurations vary by region and seller. Compare the same storage tier where possible, and check warranty coverage and seller terms; a discounted lower-capacity model is not a like-for-like price comparison with a higher-capacity one.
Which should you choose?
- Consider the OnePlus 12R if its listed 5,500 mAh battery, dynamic LTPO display, or 16 GB/256 GB option better matches your priorities.
- Consider the OnePlus Nord 5 if you want a display listed at up to 144 Hz, a 50 MP front camera claim, or the listed 256 GB and 512 GB storage options.
- Compare local listings before deciding if price is the deciding factor. Match storage, warranty, and seller conditions, and confirm the regional specification rather than assuming the figures above apply everywhere.
