One UI 9, based on Android 17, is expected to be the Galaxy S23’s final major Android and One UI upgrade. That does not mean Samsung has announced an S23 release date—or that security updates will stop when One UI 9 arrives. As of Samsung’s September 16, 2026 rollout announcement, the company had not named a date for the S23. Whether the upgrade is worth waiting for depends on its eventual stability and performance on the S23, which the available evidence does not yet establish.
Will the Galaxy S23 get One UI 9?
It is expected to. Samsung announced four generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades for select Galaxy devices in 2022. The Galaxy S23 launched with Android 13, and Samsung’s update record shows Android 16 for one S23 variant. On that basis, Android 17—expected to arrive with One UI 9—would be the fourth major generation for the S23.
This is a policy-based conclusion, not a model-by-model final-update announcement from Samsung. Samsung’s commitment applies to eligible devices, and the available model-specific final-update confirmation is secondary reporting: SamMobile reported a Samsung support-chat confirmation for the Galaxy S23 FE and extended the conclusion to the S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra based on their shared launch version and update commitment. Samsung’s 2022 announcement of four generations of upgrades establishes the policy, but does not name every S23 model as receiving One UI 9.

Samsung had not announced an S23 date in its September 16, 2026 rollout update. The company said One UI 9 was rolling out to the S26 series and had reached the Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8, with a gradual rollout to other devices expected. That announcement does not establish when the S23 will receive the update, and timing can differ by model, country, and network operator. - Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Availability can also vary among S23 versions. For example, Samsung’s US unlocked Galaxy S23 SM-S911U1 update log records Android 16 with the August 5, 2026 security patch in a build released September 3, 2026. Samsung cautions that update details may vary by model, country, and network operator, so this entry is not a universal status for every S23. Check the update log for that specific US unlocked model or look up the log for your own variant.
Does “last major update” mean S23 security updates end?
No. Major Android and One UI upgrades are separate from firmware security updates. Samsung’s current security-update scope lists the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, and S23 FE for monthly updates. The listing does not provide a final security-support date for these models, so it supports neither a claim that patches will end with One UI 9 nor a specific promise about how long they will continue. Check Samsung’s current security-update scope for the latest listing.

Is One UI 9 worth the wait if an update feels risky?
That depends on what “worth it” means for your phone. The information currently available establishes the upgrade policy and rollout status, but not how One UI 9 will affect S23 battery life, performance, reliability, or feature availability. There is no S23-specific test evidence here showing that the update will be painful—or that it will improve the experience. Avoid treating either outcome as settled before S23 owners can report on the released software.

- If your S23 works well now: You can wait for the update to reach your specific model and for credible reports from S23 owners. The rollout is gradual, and Samsung has not given the S23 a date.
- If you are concerned about bugs or battery life: Look for reports that identify the S23 model, country or carrier, and One UI version. Those details help distinguish an S23-specific issue from a problem on another device or a different rollout.
- If you are deciding whether to replace the phone: Weigh your current phone’s condition and needs against verified One UI 9 support for your exact model and the security-update scope. The cited information does not establish an update-quality verdict or a replacement-price comparison.
