Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update began reaching Galaxy S23 phones in March 2024, bringing Samsung’s Galaxy AI features to the series. The first reported US availability was limited to Verizon models, with other carriers, unlocked phones, and additional markets expected to follow. This is a record of that 2024 rollout—not a new update alert or confirmation that One UI 6.1 is available for every S23 today.

What “now live” meant for Galaxy S23 owners

On 28 March 2024, SamMobile reported that One UI 6.1 had started rolling out to Galaxy S23 phones on Verizon in the United States. Unlocked US devices, other carriers, and countries outside the US were still expected to receive it later, so the first report did not mean simultaneous worldwide availability. SamMobile’s rollout report also said the S23 FE would receive One UI 6.1 alongside the S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra.

Samsung’s Philippines newsroom had announced on 13 March that the update would bring Galaxy AI to the S23 series during March. On 1 April, it described Galaxy AI through One UI 6.1 as available in the Philippines for the Galaxy S23 series and, separately, the Galaxy S23 FE, as well as the Z Flip5, Z Fold5, and Tab S9 series. That announcement establishes availability in its stated market, not a universal release date. Samsung’s 13 March announcement and 1 April update document those announcements.

The distinction between the S23 family and S23 FE matters: Samsung named them separately. A reference to the “Galaxy S23 series” should not be used to imply that every model’s rollout happened at the same time.

Galaxy AI features Samsung described for One UI 6.1

Samsung grouped the experience around communication, creativity, and productivity. The following are Samsung’s descriptions of features, not independent test results. Availability and capabilities may depend on region, language, app, or software state; the cited announcement does not establish that every feature works offline or in every market.

Communication and translation

  • Chat Assist: Samsung described tools to adjust message tone and translate text. Its 13 March 2024 announcement specified text translation in 13 languages; that figure applies to Chat Assist in that announcement, not to every Galaxy AI feature or market.
  • Live Translate: Samsung said it could translate voice and text during calls in real time.
  • Interpreter: Samsung described a tool for live conversations.

Photo and video editing

  • Edit Suggestion: Samsung cited suggestions such as remastering photos or removing shadows and reflections.
  • Generative Edit: Samsung said users could resize, reposition, or realign objects, or remove them from an image.
  • Instant Slow-mo: Samsung described generating additional frames so a video clip could be played in slow motion.

Notes, recordings, and web pages

  • Transcript Assist: Samsung described turning recordings into text.
  • Note Assist: Samsung said it could summarize notes.
  • Browsing Assist: Samsung described summarizing articles or web pages.

Samsung also highlighted larger-screen and S Pen uses, particularly for the S23 Ultra. Those are vendor-described uses rather than a guarantee that every workflow or feature is identical across S23 models.

Circle to Search lets a user select something visible on screen to look for more information through Google, according to Samsung. The announcement does not establish that the feature is usable without an internet connection or available in every region.

How to check for One UI 6.1

In its March 2024 rollout coverage, SamMobile gave this route for checking an S23:

Rank #3
Samsung Galaxy S23 5G, 256GB, Cream - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Software update.
  3. Tap Download and install.

Those steps are the route reported at the time; they do not guarantee that a phone will currently offer One UI 6.1. Whether an update appears can depend on the exact model, country or region, carrier or unlocked status, and the software already installed. If the option or labels differ, consult Samsung’s current support information for the device and market. Do not infer that an accessory or hardware change is needed just because the update is not listed.

Why this is a historical rollout story

The phrase “now live” referred to the initial 2024 release. Android Authority’s 1 December 2024 retrospective records that the S23 series had received One UI 6.1 and notes that Samsung announced One UI 7 in November 2024. That later context makes clear that the original headline is not a current rollout notice. Android Authority’s retrospective provides that historical context.
