Frame each AI request around a real decision: name who the answer is for, what you need to decide, what is at stake, and what source material to use. Then ask the model to identify uncertainty. This gives it a clearer task and makes caveats easier to spot—but it does not prove the answer is right or establish that some people are “AI winners.”
What is the habit?
Instead of asking only for a general explanation or recommendation, state the decision the answer should help with. Include the audience and stakes, provide relevant material, and ask the AI to flag what it cannot establish. That shifts the request from “tell me about this” to “help this person make this choice using these inputs, while showing what remains uncertain.”
A practical template is:
For [audience], help decide [decision] given [stakes]. Use the material below, state what is uncertain, and identify what would change your conclusion.

How to make the request useful
Name the audience
Say who will use the answer and what they already know. An explanation for a first-time buyer, for example, may need different terminology and trade-offs than a briefing for a technical team. Audience details help define the level and focus of the response.
State the decision and stakes
Describe the choice you need to make—not just the topic—and explain why it matters. “Help me choose between these two backup approaches for a small office that cannot afford more than an hour of downtime” gives the model a decision and a constraint to address. The stated stakes can guide which trade-offs to discuss; they do not ensure that the model will weigh them correctly.

Provide the material to work from
Include relevant documents, figures, requirements, or excerpts rather than relying on the model to reconstruct them from a vague prompt. This is often called context engineering: shaping the information supplied with a request so the model has material relevant to the task. Source material can reduce dependence on a broad, context-free question, but the model can still misread, omit, or misinterpret it.

Ask for uncertainty explicitly
Request that the answer distinguish what the supplied material supports from what is unclear, and identify what additional fact could change the conclusion. That makes uncertainty visible in the response. It is not independent verification: a model may overlook a gap, express unwarranted confidence, or make an error even when asked to flag uncertainty.

What changes compared with a vague prompt?
| Element | Vague request | Decision-framed request |
|---|---|---|
| Audience | Unspecified | Names who needs the answer |
| Goal | Asks about a broad topic | Names the decision to support |
| Constraints | Stakes or limits may be missing | States the relevant stakes or limits |
| Inputs | May rely on a general response | Supplies material for the model to use |
| Uncertainty | May go unmentioned | Requests uncertainties and facts that could change the conclusion |
This is a comparison of request structure, not evidence from a controlled test showing that one format always performs better.

The headline phrase suggests a measurable group that succeeds with AI because of one habit. The available evidence does not establish that comparison or prove that decision-framed requests cause better outcomes. The underlying figures discussed in the TechJuice article have not been verified against the original publishers, so they should not be treated as established statistics. The practical advice can still be assessed on its own: a clear decision, relevant inputs, and an explicit uncertainty request tell the model what kind of response you want, while leaving accuracy to be checked.

How to check the answer before acting
- Confirm that the response addresses the decision and constraints you actually named.
- Compare factual claims with the supplied material, especially figures, dates, and quoted requirements.
- Check important claims against reliable primary sources when the consequences are significant.
- Use the model’s uncertainty notes as prompts for further checking, not as proof that every other part is certain.
- Ask what evidence would change the recommendation, then examine whether that evidence is available.
The habit is most useful when the answer is meant to inform a real choice. It improves the shape of the request; it does not replace judgment or verification.
