OMNIVISION announced the OP03050 single-chip LCOS display at CES 2024 on January 8, 2024. The panel is designed for AR, XR and MR glasses and head-mounted displays, with a 1560 × 1200 resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and a 0.23-inch optical format. Its key design change is integrating the LCOS array, driving circuit, framebuffer and interface in one chip.
What OMNIVISION launched
The OP03050 is a liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS) microdisplay intended for compact wearable displays. OMNIVISION announced it on January 8, 2024, during CES 2024, with real-time video-conferencing and streaming among its target use cases. These specifications are listed on OMNIVISION’s OP03050 product page. A 120 Hz refresh rate describes how often the display can update; it is not, by itself, a measured end-to-end latency figure.
How the single-chip design can reduce size and power
LCOS displays use a liquid-crystal layer over a silicon backplane. OMNIVISION says the OP03050 combines the LCOS array, driving circuit, framebuffer and interface in one chip. Integrating these functions can reduce the number of separate components and supporting connections in a display module, helping designers pursue smaller, lighter glasses and lower system power. The finished device’s size and power still depend on the rest of its optical and electronic system.

OMNIVISION’s LCOS technology overview claims its all-in-one design reduces power consumption by 40% compared with a two-chip solution. That is a vendor claim, not an independently measured result for every OP03050-based device; the cited overview does not establish the test conditions or a system-wide guarantee.
Availability and the later OP03021
At the January 2024 launch, OMNIVISION said OP03050 samples were available and that mass production was planned for the second half of 2024. Its product page directs interested buyers to contact sales and does not publish a price. Those launch statements do not independently confirm current stock or production status; availability should be checked with OMNIVISION.

Do not confuse the OP03050 with OMNIVISION’s later OP03021. Announced on December 16, 2025, the OP03021 is specified at 1632 × 1536, 90 Hz and a 0.26-inch optical format. OMNIVISION said samples were available and mass production was planned for the first half of 2026. These are specifications and timing for the OP03021, not the OP03050. Who the OP03050 is for
The part is a display component for product designers and manufacturers, rather than a standalone consumer screen. Its high refresh rate, compact optical format and integrated electronics are relevant to wearable-display designs, but the listed panel specifications do not establish the performance of a complete headset. Optical engine design, brightness, color behavior, power management and the rest of the system affect what users ultimately see and experience. OMNIVISION also lists VR, smart shelves, pico projectors, automotive and medical devices as applications for its broader LCOS technology; that list should not be read as confirmation of a named OP03050 deployment in each category.
