On May 4, 2022, healthcare technology provider Omnicell disclosed that ransomware had affected certain internal IT systems. The company said that, based on its assessment at the time, it knew of no disruption to customers’ medication-management devices, including automated dispensing systems and robotic equipment. Omnicell also acknowledged impacts to certain other products and services, and said its assessment was ongoing.
What Omnicell disclosed in May 2022
In a May 4, 2022 Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Omnicell said it had determined that ransomware affected certain company information technology systems. It reported impacts to certain internal systems and other products and services.
The company’s statement about customer equipment was explicitly time-bounded: “Based on the Company’s assessment to date, there is no known disruption in the operation of our customers’ medication management devices, including automated dispensing systems or robotic equipment.” That describes what Omnicell knew when it made the disclosure; it is not independent confirmation that every customer system was unaffected or a finding about patient-care outcomes.
Containment and continuity steps
Omnicell said it took immediate steps intended to contain the incident, put business-continuity plans in place to restore and support continued operations, notified appropriate law-enforcement authorities, and worked with cybersecurity experts and legal counsel. The company characterized its assessment as ongoing.

What Omnicell said about recovery
In its 2022 ESG report, Omnicell retrospectively said it contained the incident and restored substantially all of its critical IT systems. The report described the event as a test of business continuity and disaster recovery plans; this is the company’s account of its recovery.
Security measures described after the incident
The same report said Omnicell reviewed its attack surface, worked to harden identity and computing environments, increased awareness efforts, and deployed privileged-access-management and endpoint-detection-and-response solutions. These are measures Omnicell said it took after the event, not evidence that a particular control would have prevented the incident.
What later filings add—and what they do not
Omnicell’s 2025 annual report said previous cybersecurity incidents had not materially affected its business strategy, results of operations, or financial condition. It also discussed ongoing cyber threats and the company’s incident-response structure. In an February 2026 financial-results release, Omnicell continued to include the previously disclosed ransomware incident among cyber risks that could have adverse effects.

Omnicell’s August 4, 2022 Form 8-K also referred to the earlier incident and identified possible legal, reputational, and financial risks from it or further cyber incidents. Listing possible risks is not evidence that a specific loss occurred.

What remains unestablished in the public record
The reviewed disclosures do not identify an attacker or ransomware variant, establish whether company or personal information was exfiltrated, quantify downtime, or give an incident-specific cost. SecurityWeek’s May 11, 2022 contemporaneous report likewise noted that Omnicell had not said whether information was stolen or what ransomware was involved. The absence of those details from these sources does not establish that data theft or other consequences did not happen.
