An OM SYSTEM presentation reportedly showed two updated lenses: a M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 II and a M.Zuiko Digital ED 40–150mm f/4.5–5.6 R II. Notebookcheck reported the apparent reveal on 8 October 2026, but OM SYSTEM had not formally announced either lens in that report. Their specifications, improvements and release timing remain unknown.
Which lenses were reportedly shown?
Notebookcheck’s 8 October 2026 report says an OM SYSTEM presentation appeared to show these two lens names. The report attributes the sighting to an OM SYSTEM YouTube presentation; the footage was not independently reviewed for this article, so the models should be treated as reported appearances, not verified announcements.
| Reported model | Type and likely role | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 II | Prime lens; the existing 45mm f/1.8 is a portrait lens | Notebookcheck reported seeing this model name. It described the lens as apparently similar in appearance to the 45mm f/1.8 Olympus launched in 2013. No confirmed specifications, improvements or release date were provided. (Notebookcheck, 8 October 2026) |
| M.Zuiko Digital ED 40–150mm f/4.5–5.6 R II | Telephoto zoom | Notebookcheck reported seeing this model name, but flagged a likely aperture-label typo: the presentation markings appeared to show f/4.0 at 40mm, as on the immediate predecessor. Final specifications are not established. (Notebookcheck, 8 October 2026) |
Is OM SYSTEM updating the 45mm f/1.8?
Possibly, but the report is not confirmation of a product launch. It identifies a 45mm f/1.8 II in the presentation and connects it to the existing 45mm f/1.8, which Olympus launched in 2013. That makes it a reported successor to a 13-year-old lens design, not evidence that the successor itself has been available for 13 years or that a launch date is set.

It speculates about possibilities such as a newer autofocus motor, weather sealing or different coatings, but none of those are confirmed features. Specifications, price, dimensions and availability for the II version are not stated.

What is the issue with the 40–150mm II name?
The displayed name reportedly gives the zoom an f/4.5–5.6 aperture range, while the markings appeared to show f/4.0 at the 40mm end. Notebookcheck says that f/4.0 marking matches the immediate predecessor, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40–150mm f/4.0–5.6 R, and suggests the presentation may contain a typo. Until OM SYSTEM publishes specifications, neither the name nor the apparent marking should be treated as a definitive specification.
What is confirmed about compatible lenses and the PEN?
OM SYSTEM’s official 6 February 2025 announcement says its 17mm F1.8 II and 25mm F1.8 II lenses comply with the Micro Four Thirds System standard. That is confirmed context for other II-series lenses, not evidence about the rumored 45mm or 40–150mm models.

The official PEN-F manual lists the existing M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 45mm f1.8 and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40–150mm f4.0–5.6 R among compatible lenses and advises using lenses designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras. It does not verify either rumored II model for the newly launched OM PEN. Check OM SYSTEM’s current compatibility information for the specific camera and lens before buying.

Should you wait for either lens?
There is not enough confirmed information to compare the reported II versions on practical buying criteria such as price, dimensions, weather protection or availability. The two reported lenses also have different uses: the 45mm is a prime associated with portrait photography, while the 40–150mm is a telephoto zoom. Choose between existing lenses based on the focal lengths and features you can verify today rather than assuming an update will arrive or improve a particular capability.

The existing M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 is a separate predecessor product. For another portrait option, OM SYSTEM describes its 75mm F1.8 as a portrait lens with a 150mm 35mm-equivalent focal length. These are existing products, not confirmation of either reported II lens.

For now, the relevant distinction is between an apparent presentation sighting and an official product announcement. The Notebookcheck report did not establish final specifications, a formal announcement, a release date or new-PEN compatibility. Those details require official OM SYSTEM product information.
