Okta reported 11% year-over-year revenue growth and 14% cRPO growth in its fiscal second quarter of 2027, but those results alone do not verify claims that its stock tripled, new products generated 30% of bookings, or shares trade at about 50 times forward earnings. The results show a growing subscription business, stronger expected near-term revenue coverage, and substantial cash generation. The share-price and valuation claims require separate, dated evidence.
1. Revenue grew 11%, while subscription backlog grew 14%
For the quarter ended July 31, 2026, Okta reported revenue of $805 million, up 11% year over year. Subscription revenue was $793 million, up 12%. The company also reported $2.585 billion in current remaining performance obligations (cRPO), up 14%. Total remaining performance obligations (RPO) were $4.858 billion, up 17%. Okta’s August 26, 2026 results release provides these figures.
Okta defines cRPO as subscription backlog expected to be recognized as revenue over the next 12 months. It is not revenue already earned, and its growth rate need not match revenue growth in the same quarter. The 14% figure points to growth in contracted work expected to convert to revenue over that period; it does not, by itself, establish how much revenue will ultimately be recognized or when within the period it will arrive.

The FY2026 results release reports those historical figures.

2. Cash generation and GAAP profitability improved
Okta reported $227 million in free cash flow for Q2 FY2027, a 28% margin. For FY2026, it reported $863 million in free cash flow, equal to 30% of revenue. These company-reported figures are evidence of cash generation; they are not a substitute for assessing the company’s accounting profit, dilution, or future performance.
GAAP operating results also improved over the full fiscal year: Okta reported $149 million in operating income for FY2026, compared with a $74 million operating loss in FY2025. Those are GAAP operating figures, distinct from adjusted or non-GAAP earnings measures. Okta’s FY2026 release explains that its non-GAAP measures exclude items including stock-based compensation, amortization of acquired intangibles, acquisition and integration costs, and restructuring costs. A valuation based on non-GAAP earnings can differ materially from one based on GAAP results, so the earnings basis must be specified.

3. New products contributed, but the 30% bookings claim is unsubstantiated
Okta CFO Brett Tighe said the quarter’s top-line growth benefited from contributions from the company’s new-product portfolio, led by Okta Identity Governance. That is evidence of a reported contribution to revenue growth. The Q2 release does not say that new products represented 30% of bookings, however, and it does not give a bookings share that would substantiate that percentage.
Okta CEO Todd McKinnon framed the opportunity in terms of AI agents needing identity and access controls. That is management’s strategic view, not independent confirmation of adoption or product-market position. In FY2026, McKinnon also cited adoption of new products as a contributor to performance. Neither statement supplies a quantified bookings mix.

4. The reported results do not establish that Okta shares tripled
The company’s earnings releases report operating and financial results, not the interval or calculation behind a claim that the share price tripled. To assess that claim, an investor needs a defined start and end date, the prices used, and whether the comparison is adjusted for dividends or other corporate actions. Without those details, “tripled” is not a verified performance measure and should not be attributed to the company’s quarterly results.
Even a verified price increase would describe market performance, not prove that cRPO growth, new products, or any single operating result caused a re-rating. Those are different questions: the stock’s return is a market outcome; the releases document the company’s reported fundamentals.

5. A roughly 50x forward multiple needs a date and earnings basis
The Q2 release does not establish that Okta traded at approximately 50 times forward earnings. To evaluate that figure, readers need at least the share price date, the forecast earnings or EPS denominator and its source, and whether the denominator is GAAP or non-GAAP. A forward price-to-earnings multiple can change with both the stock price and estimate revisions.

The company said the revenue outlook included an approximately one-percentage-point headwind from accelerating the shift of professional-services business to partners. This forward guidance is management’s outlook, not reported earnings and not, on its own, a verified valuation multiple. Actual results may differ materially.
What the five takeaways mean for an investor
- Growth: Q2 revenue rose 11%, while cRPO rose 14%; the measures track recognized revenue and expected near-term backlog, respectively.
- Cash and profit: Okta reported positive free cash flow in Q2 and FY2026, and a return to GAAP operating income for FY2026.
- Product momentum: Management credited new products, led by Okta Identity Governance, with helping top-line growth, but the cited release does not quantify their share of bookings.
- Stock performance: The earnings releases do not document the dates or return calculation needed to verify that shares tripled.
- Valuation: The cited material does not establish a 50x forward multiple; that requires a dated share price and a sourced, clearly defined earnings estimate.
Okta’s published results support a case for continued growth and improved cash generation, but they are not enough to validate the headline’s stock-return, bookings-mix, or valuation claims. Keeping those claims separate from reported results is essential to judging what the quarter actually shows.
