For ATV and off-road motorcycle riding, choose boots according to how demanding the terrain and riding are: a stiff enduro-style boot prioritizes structural protection, while an adventure boot can better suit mixed road-and-trail trips. Waterproofing, ventilation, grip, fit and walkability are separate trade-offs, so compare the specific model rather than relying on a broad label such as “off-road.”

This guide covers motorcycle and ATV riding boots. The available product information does not establish that these boots are appropriate or necessary for people driving inside enclosed 4×4 vehicles.

Choose a boot for your riding, not just the terrain name

“Off-road” can describe anything from occasional gravel-road travel to sustained enduro riding. Those uses put different demands on boots. A more protective, rigid chassis can be useful for demanding trail riding, but may be less comfortable for walking. A touring-oriented adventure boot may be more suitable for road-to-trail trips, but its stated off-road use may be limited.

  • Enduro or technical trail riding: Prioritize a secure closure, substantial ankle and shin protection, a supportive heel and a stiff sole. Expect less flexibility when walking.
  • Mixed road and trail touring: Consider a boot designed for both on- and off-road trips, and check exactly how much off-road use its manufacturer describes.
  • Wet conditions: A waterproof membrane can help keep water out, but does not by itself establish that a boot will feel cool in warm weather.

These are selection criteria, not results from independent comparative testing. Manufacturer pages and guidance support the model descriptions below; they do not establish a single best boot for every rider.

Leatt ADV HydraDri 8.5 Leatt describes it as an off-road expedition boot. Leatt lists a stiff, off-road-inspired chassis, reinforced shin plate, ankle impact foam, shaped heel support and a steel-shank-reinforced sole. Leatt states that the model is CE tested and certified to EN 13634:2017. Its guide says this model reaches Level 2 on all four properties described in that guide. HydraDri EVO waterproof/breathable membrane; ADV sole.
Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro Alpinestars identifies it as enduro footwear on its 2026 product page. The reviewed official-page information identifies the product and provides size information, but does not establish detailed protection specifications here. Not stated in the reviewed product information.
Dainese Infinity 3 GTX Dainese describes it as a certified four-season motorcycle boot for on- and off-road trips. Dainese lists reinforcements at the toe, gear area, heel, ankle and shin. Gore-Tex Performance waterproof/breathable membrane. The outsole is described as suitable for touring and light off-road use, with a design intended for standing on foot pegs.
Leatt Moto 4.5 HydraDri Evo Leatt presents it as a motocross/enduro boot. Leatt lists double ankle pivots, ankle impact foam, TPU armor, a low-profile toe box and a steel shank. Its page says the boot is CE certified to prEN 13634:2017. HydraDri EVO membrane and a dual-zone Enduro sole.

Specifications and certification statements in this table are manufacturer claims, not independent test comparisons. Certification wording is model-specific: the Leatt ADV HydraDri 8.5 listing names EN 13634:2017, while the Moto 4.5 page uses the wording “prEN 13634:2017.” Do not treat those statements as interchangeable or assume another model shares either result.

What the certification and protection details tell you

Leatt’s manufacturer guide describes four properties tested under the standard: abrasion resistance of the upper, impact cut resistance, transverse rigidity (resistance to compression from the side) and ankle protection against hyper-flexion. Leatt also reports that the ADV HydraDri 8.5 reaches Level 2 on all four properties described for that model. This is a manufacturer-reported, model-specific result—not evidence that all off-road boots meet that level or that one certified boot is the safest choice for every rider.

When comparing boots, look for the named model’s own certification statement and inspect the protection details the manufacturer actually lists. A product category or family name alone does not establish ankle, shin, toe or heel protection.

Balance waterproofing, ventilation and walking comfort

A waterproof/breathable membrane addresses water resistance, but it is not a guarantee of comfort in hot conditions. Leatt’s guide says, as manufacturer editorial guidance, that full waterproofing and maximum ventilation cannot be achieved in the same boot. Treat that as a trade-off to consider, not a universal measurement of how warm a particular model will feel.

MSR M3X Motocross Boots - Black, Men's Size 8
  • Durable Micro-Fiber Construction with Molded Overlays - High-strength build offers standout abrasion protection and lightness for agile riding.
  • Reinforced Steel Shank for Structural Support -Maintains boot shape and reinforces the arch, keeping you stable across varied terrain.
  • Glove-Friendly, Fully Adjustable Positive-Lock Buckles - Secure fastening with easy adjustment and replaceable straps for long-term use.
  • Elastic Debris-Blocking Gaiter - Effectively keeps dirt and debris out, ensuring better cleanliness and riding comfort.
  • Flex Panels & Padded Ankle Support - Designed to allow natural movement while providing targeted protection and cushioning.

Sole construction also affects the riding-and-walking balance. A stiff sole and reinforced shank can support the foot on the bike, while a touring or adventure outsole may better suit getting off the bike during a trip. The Dainese Infinity 3 GTX is specifically described for touring and light off-road use; that description does not make it a motocross boot.

Check fit and listing details before buying

  1. Confirm the exact model and intended use. Distinguish a motocross or enduro boot from an adventure or touring boot, even when both mention off-road use.
  2. Check sizing information for that model. Use the manufacturer’s size guidance and verify fit before riding; the reviewed information does not establish a universal sizing rule across these boots.
  3. Inspect the closure and protection points. Check that the boot holds your foot securely and that its stated ankle, shin, toe and heel features match your needs.
  4. Verify the current seller listing. Confirm the model version, features, certification wording and availability directly with the seller or manufacturer. Marketplace inventory and prices have not been verified here.
