A Lifehacker article dated October 5, 2026, reported that Amazon was offering the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD for $1,099. That matches the article’s stated launch price and is $200 below its reported $1,299 MSRP. Those are dated reported prices, not confirmation that Amazon’s offer is still available.
What the reported October Prime Day deal includes
The reported $1,099 offer is for the base 13-inch M5 MacBook Air configuration: an M5 chip, 16GB unified memory and a 512GB SSD. Apple confirms those specifications for a 13-inch configuration, while noting that memory and storage vary by configuration. The deal report identifies Amazon as the retailer; it does not establish whether the listing remains live, which seller fulfilled it, or whether stock is available.
How the reported prices compare
| Price point | Reported amount | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Launch price | $1,099 | Lifehacker’s October 5, 2026 article describes this as the configuration’s launch price. |
| Then-current MSRP | $1,299 | Lifehacker’s article cites this as the MSRP, $200 above the reported deal price. |
| Amazon deal | $1,099 | Lifehacker reported this as the October 5, 2026 offer price, equal to the article’s stated launch price. |
The price history and discount are claims in the dated Lifehacker report, mirrored by a secondary site; the live Amazon listing and independent MSRP history have not been verified. The report attributes the MSRP increase to a “memory crisis,” but the available sources do not independently establish that cause, so it should be treated as the article’s explanation rather than a verified causal finding.
What Apple’s specifications tell you
Apple calls this a 13-inch MacBook Air, although the display measures 13.6 inches diagonally. Its published specifications include a native resolution of 2560 by 1664 pixels and 500 nits brightness. The laptop also has MagSafe 3 charging, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, Touch ID, a backlit keyboard and a 12MP Center Stage camera. These are specification details, not evidence of comparative performance or independent review results.

What to check before buying
Because the deal is based on a dated report rather than a verified live listing, confirm the offer directly before placing an order. Check that the listing is for the 13-inch M5 model with 16GB memory and 512GB storage, then review the displayed price, seller, stock status and delivery terms. A listing for a different memory or storage configuration is not the same deal.
