Yes, Titan used a Logitech wireless game controller, identified in reporting as the F710. In its August 2024 wrongful-death complaint, the estate of French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet sought at least $50 million and alleged failures across Titan’s design and safety systems. The filing did not say the controller alone caused the implosion, and its claims are allegations—not findings of liability.

What the Nargeolet estate’s lawsuit says

The complaint was filed in King County Superior Court on August 6, 2024, against OceanGate and other defendants. Nargeolet died when the Titan submersible imploded during its June 2023 expedition.

The estate pleaded claims including wrongful death, negligence, gross negligence and unseaworthiness. It requested at least $50 million in damages. That is the amount sought by the plaintiff, not a court award or a determination that any defendant is liable.

What role the Logitech controller plays in the allegations

The complaint describes Titan as being piloted with a “mass-produced Logitech video game controller” connected over Bluetooth rather than hardwired. Ars Technica identifies the model as the Logitech F710. The complaint also describes other controls and gauges as touchscreen-based and alleges that Titan depended on electrical power and a wireless signal.

The controller is one detail in the complaint’s broader account of alleged design and safety risks. Ars Technica reports that the filing did not claim the gamepad, carbon-fiber construction, viewport or use of dissimilar materials was individually responsible for the implosion. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe the suit as blaming the controller alone.

The assignment’s “$30” price is not established by the cited filing or reporting. The relevant point in the lawsuit is the controller’s alleged role in Titan’s control system, not a verified purchase price.

What else the complaint alleges

The filing raises allegations involving Titan’s carbon-fiber hull, viewport, connections between dissimilar materials, engineering decisions and safety warnings. These are claims made by Nargeolet’s estate in litigation; the complaint itself does not prove that any particular design choice caused the loss.

In recounting alleged warnings by former OceanGate director of marine operations David Lochridge, the complaint attributes to him the remarks “you can’t cut corners in the deep” and “not about being a disruptor. It’s about the laws of physics.” Those quotations are presented here as the complaint’s account of Lochridge’s statements.

How the lawsuit differs from court and Coast Guard records

The federal court order recounts the state-court filing and its later removal to federal court, then grants the estate representative’s motion to remand. That ruling concerns where the case would proceed; it is not a decision on whether the allegations are true or on the defendants’ liability. The order does not establish the case’s eventual disposition in state court.

Separately, the U.S. Coast Guard’s public records index lists a Titan Submersible Marine Board of Investigation and a report dated August 5, 2025. The index establishes that official investigation records are available; it is not a substitute for the report’s findings. The lawsuit’s claims should not be presented as conclusions of the Coast Guard investigation.
