Bombchu Bowling, the Shooting Gallery and horseback archery are the toughest established Ocarina of Time minigames. They test different skills: hazard timing and launch angles, memorized or rapidly identified target patterns, and accurate shooting while riding Epona. The strategies below use the documented rules from Ocarina of Time and Ocarina of Time 3D, then separate those rules from the limited information currently available about the 2026 remake.
A GamesRadar hands-on preview published October 16, 2026 confirms a new, harder target-shooting version with much less time to hit targets. It does not publish the new timer, layout, controls or prize table. Treat every legacy rule in this guide as an established-version reference until a post-launch source confirms how the remake changes it.
What is confirmed about the 2026 remake?
The remake preview reports new side quests, including a Castle Town potion-shop bug quest, and minor Forest Temple layout changes. Those are preview observations, not a complete feature list. A separate minigame guide dated October 14, 2026 says the final roster and prize changes had not been listed publicly.

How do I beat Bombchu Bowling?
Know the rules before spending rupees
Bombchu Bowling is in Castle Town Market and is available to child Link. Each attempt costs 30 Rupees. You have ten Bombchu shots to land three of them in the hole. The board changes between three stages, with a moving spike trap and, later, Cuccos obstructing the lane.
The challenge is primarily about releasing at the correct moment and using a repeatable angle. Do a few deliberate practice attempts to learn the spike-trap cycle before trying to force a win. Releasing early or changing position randomly costs both rupees and shots.
Stage 1: center hole
- Stand directly in front of the center hole.
- Watch the moving spike trap cross the middle of the board.
- Launch immediately after the trap passes the center, keeping the Bombchu on the straight line.
- Repeat the same release point rather than adjusting after every miss.
The opening board is the place to establish your timing. If a Bombchu clips the spike trap, wait for a full cycle instead of launching quickly to recover.

Stage 2: read the active hole
Stage 2 can use a left, center or right hole. The alignment changes only slightly, so small horizontal corrections are more reliable than a dramatic turn.
- Left hole: stand just left of the center marker and use a slight up-left diagonal.
- Center hole: use the straight center shot, wait for the spike trap, and check that no Cucco is entering the lane.
- Right hole: stand just right of the marker and use a slight up-right diagonal.
Keep the camera and Link’s position consistent between attempts. Your goal is to reproduce the same line, not to steer the Bombchu after launch.
Stage 3: clear every moving hazard
Use the center setup again, but do not launch until the spike trap, the ordinary Cucco and the larger Big Cucco are all clear. The safe window is narrower than in Stage 1. Track the hazards first, then commit to the familiar straight shot; trying to compensate with a last-second diagonal usually creates a wall collision.

Rewards and an efficient practice plan
The one-time reward pool includes a Piece of Heart and a Big Bomb Bag. Other outcomes can be Bombchus, Bombs or a 50-Rupee Purple Rupee. Because each try costs 30 Rupees, farm a reserve before practicing and stop after a losing streak long enough to make your release timing inconsistent. What is the easiest way to win the Shooting Gallery?
Child Link: memorize the fixed pattern
The child Shooting Gallery is in Castle Town. An attempt costs 20 Rupees, and you must hit all ten targets within fifteen shots. The target order is fixed in the established game, making this the most learnable of the major challenges.
- Play one inexpensive attempt without chasing a perfect score; record the order in which targets appear.
- Repeat the sequence until your eyes move to the next target before Link finishes the current shot.
- Use single, deliberate releases. A rushed shot is more expensive than a brief pause because you have only five misses available.
- When the sequence is automatic, focus on the few targets that cause your misses and refine only those transitions.
Deku Seeds land slightly below the center of the aiming bands. Aim a little high, especially when a target appears near the top of its band. This correction is small; overcompensating upward can turn a center hit into a miss.

Adult Link: identify the pattern family
The adult gallery is in Kakariko Village. It uses the same pattern families, but their order is randomized. Memorizing one complete sequence is therefore less useful than recognizing which pattern is currently active.
- Scan the first few targets to identify the pattern family.
- Switch your attention to the next likely target instead of searching the entire screen after each hit.
- Keep the slight high-aim correction for the slingshot-style aiming bands used by the established game.
- Reserve enough shots to recover from one or two recognition errors; spending every shot on a doubtful target leaves no margin.
Rewards and the remake warning
Your first child clear increases Deku Seed Bag capacity. Your first adult clear increases Quiver capacity. Later successful clears pay 50 Rupees. A separate Lost Woods target activity awards 300 points for hitting its target center three times in a row and provides a larger Deku Seed Bag.

GamesRadar says only that the new version gives you much less time. Its target arrangement, timer and prize table remain unpublished, so the safest preparation is to practice rapid target recognition rather than rely on a specific countdown.

How do I get 1,000 points in horseback archery?
Eligibility and scoring
Horseback archery is available to adult Link at Gerudo’s Fortress while riding Epona. The course gives you 20 arrows to shoot targets and pots as the ride continues. The 2026 guide reports 100 points for a bullseye and 100 points for a pot; scoring more than 1,000 points earns a Piece of Heart. Each attempt costs 20 Rupees.
Build a reliable route before chasing the record
- Keep Epona’s line steady. Enter each pass with a predictable angle so your reticle reaches targets without a sharp turn.
- Prioritize large targets and pots. They provide dependable points while you learn the course and reduce the risk of wasting arrows on marginal shots.
- Draw before the target is centered. Holding the aim as Epona approaches gives you time to release through the target rather than reacting after it passes.
- Avoid turning sharply while drawing. A sudden correction changes both your horse’s path and the reticle, making a near-perfect shot unreliable.
- Use the first attempts as route practice. Note which side each target appears on, then optimize the order only after you can finish with arrows remaining.
The movement advice is practical guidance, not a published guarantee of a particular score. The documented numeric requirements are the 20-arrow setup, 100-point bullseyes and pots, 1,000-point threshold, and 20-Rupee entry fee.
Which Ocarina of Time minigames are hardest?
No independent survey or published difficulty statistic establishes an objective ranking. For a player-oriented ranking, Bombchu Bowling is usually the most punishing early challenge because a single mistimed release can waste an attempt; horseback archery demands the greatest simultaneous control; and the adult Shooting Gallery is the most mentally demanding when its pattern order changes. The remake’s shorter target-shooting timer could move the gallery to the top, but its exact rules are not yet public.

The established roster extends beyond the three high-pressure challenges. The table lists the standard Ocarina of Time/Ocarina of Time 3D associations; the remake’s final prizes had not been published by October 14, 2026.

A practice checklist that saves rupees
- Carry enough Rupees for several attempts, but set a fixed spending limit before starting.
- Practice one variable at a time: release timing for Bombchus, sequence recognition for galleries, or route control for Epona.
- Stop repeating a mistake when your inputs become rushed; take a short reset and restart with the same setup.
- Claim capacity upgrades early when available. Bigger seed, arrow and Bombchu reserves make later exploration less restrictive.
- For the remake, record the exact timer, target order and reward once verified in the released game instead of assuming the preview mode uses legacy rules.
The practical verdict is straightforward: learn Bombchu Bowling’s hazard cycle, memorize the child’s gallery and identify the adult gallery’s pattern family, then treat horseback archery as a route-optimization exercise. Those methods address the documented challenges without pretending that the remake’s unreleased timer, controls or prizes are already known.
