Remember that Connections categories can use words in different ways. A word may look as though it belongs in more than one group, but only one final arrangement uses every entry exactly once.

Hints for Connections #852

Here are light category clues without listing the answers:

  • Yellow: These words describe something important, consequential, or substantial.
  • Green: Each answer can be one member of a familiar group of seven.
  • Blue: Put “The” before each answer to get the name of a Major Arcana tarot card.
  • Purple: Add the same word associated with the organ used for seeing.

If you want the complete solution, continue below.

Connections answers for October 10, 2025

Yellow: SIGNIFICANT

BIG, IMPORTANT, MAJOR, SERIOUS

All four words can mean significant, important, consequential, or substantial. For example, a “major” event or a “serious” issue can both be significant, while “big” and “important” are direct synonyms in many contexts.

Green: ONE IN A SEPTET

CONTINENT, DEADLY SIN, SISTER, WONDER

Each entry represents one item from a familiar group of seven:

  • A continent is one of the commonly taught seven continents.
  • A deadly sin is one of the seven deadly sins.
  • A sister refers to one of the Seven Sisters.
  • A wonder refers to one of the seven wonders of the ancient or modern world.

This category is intentionally broad: the four words do not belong to one single named set. Instead, each can be understood as one member of a well-known septet.

Blue: TAROT CARDS, WITH “THE”

DEVIL, LOVERS, MAGICIAN, STAR

Adding “The” produces four Major Arcana tarot-card names:

  • The Devil
  • The Lovers
  • The Magician
  • The Star

The wording matters here. MAGIC may seem related to The Magician, but “The Magic” is not the name of a tarot card. The correct entry is MAGICIAN.

Purple: ___ EYE

EVIL, MAGIC, NAKED, THIRD

Each word forms a familiar phrase when followed by “eye”:

  • evil eye
  • magic eye
  • naked eye
  • third eye

MAGIC is the main trap in this group. It may initially pull you toward the tarot category because of The Magician, but it belongs here as magic eye.

Complete solution grid

Category Words
SIGNIFICANT BIG, IMPORTANT, MAJOR, SERIOUS
ONE IN A SEPTET CONTINENT, DEADLY SIN, SISTER, WONDER
TAROT CARDS, WITH “THE” DEVIL, LOVERS, MAGICIAN, STAR
___ EYE EVIL, MAGIC, NAKED, THIRD

Tricky words in this puzzle

MAGIC and MAGICIAN

These two entries are designed to create an overlap. MAGICIAN completes the tarot-card name The Magician, while MAGIC completes the phrase magic eye. Separating the noun from the related concept prevents the blue and purple groups from being mixed together.

SISTER

SISTER is less immediately specific than the tarot entries or the “eye” phrases. It belongs in the green group because it can refer to one of the Seven Sisters. The category does not require all four entries to come from the same particular seven-member list; it groups words that can each describe one member of a familiar septet.

STAR

STAR might look like a general word for something important or famous, but it is needed for the blue group: The Star is a Major Arcana card. That leaves BIG, IMPORTANT, MAJOR, and SERIOUS as the clean synonym group.
