NYC Ferry and Zelle are sponsoring free rides on a different NYC Ferry route each Thursday in October 2026. As of October 3, the October 1 kickoff has passed; the announced remaining dates are October 8, 15, 22 and 29. There is no RSVP or advance ticket purchase, but boarding is first-come, first-served and capacity is limited.
Which routes are free, and when?
The route changes each Thursday. NYC Ferry and Zelle list this October schedule:
| Date | Route | Status as of October 3, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| October 1 | St. George | Past; kickoff event |
| October 8 | East River | Upcoming |
| October 15 | Rockaway–Soundview | Upcoming |
| October 22 | South Brooklyn | Upcoming |
| October 29 | Astoria | Upcoming |
The dates and route sequence appear in Zelle’s September 29 announcement and on the operator’s NYC Ferry promotion page. Check the promotion page for current times: schedules are subject to change.
How to board a free ride
- Go to a NYC Ferry stop on the route announced for that Thursday.
- Join the boarding line. NYC Ferry says no RSVP or ticket purchase is required.
- Board if space is available. Capacity is limited and boarding is first-come, first-served; if a vessel fills, you may have to wait for a later departure.
The promotion does not guarantee a place onboard. The pages do not say that a return trip is included, so check the current schedule and plan your return separately.

What happened at the October 1 kickoff?
The kickoff was advertised for 5:00–8:00 p.m. on the St. George route, with a Midtown West departure listed at 4:54 p.m. Zelle described local treats, drinks, giveaways and harbor views, with limited capacity and offerings available while supplies lasted. That event has passed; those details do not establish what will be offered on the remaining Thursdays.

Zelle says the campaign is meant to lower transportation costs as New Yorkers explore neighborhoods and support local businesses. It also created an NYC Affordable Date Night Guide with Ellie Williams, founder of For the Girls. The NYC Ferry companion guide points to local businesses near ferry stops, including UES Petals, Julia Jean’s Ice Cream and St Kilda Coffee. Its introduction says the featured businesses use Zelle for customer payments, invoices or other business transactions; the pages do not establish that they are affiliate partners.
Rank #2
“Help your dating game” is the campaign’s promotional framing, not a promise of a particular dating result. Zelle general manager Denise Leonhard said, “New York City has endless possibilities for a memorable date, and a great night out shouldn’t depend on how much you spend.” Williams described her generation’s emphasis on experiences such as discovering a neighborhood and supporting a local spot rather than focusing on the price tag.
